    The suffering is the point for a lot of the ruling class. They feel richer if the poors are that much more miserable. Also, they want line to go up, and to go up faster than ever before. I don’t think there will be butter this time around.

    Honestly I don’t know that they’re willing to even concede that much anymore. The people doing it before were the disillusioned, booze-soaked imperial pragmatists who understood what was bullshit and what was functional. Now it’s all true market believers and the sons of sons who fully believe the grandiose expedient lies of their predecessors.
