We can talk about getting the best out of really good forwards, but we need a world class striker. Not someone who will maybe become a world class striker, but someone established and proven who will reliably bang in 20-25 goals in the league (in addition to the goals expected from the rest of the team). Need to be prepared to spend Declan Rice money or more.

If we land that type of player, we will have levelled the playing field.

Why do we need this when we had our record goal scoring Premier League season last year with 88, and our top scorers had “only” 15. People need to learn to stop focusing on individual goals, that isn’t important, team goals are.

Because that still wasn’t enough. Man City have moved the landscape, if we want the PL we need more goals and the quickest way to that is upgrade Eddie at CF.

Who is reliably gonna score 20-25 ? Salah/haaland/kane have been the only ones who have done it regularly and we ain’t signing anyone like that.

Even osimen has only done it once.

Can’t say I agree with this article. He’s comparing us to Liverpool and Man City and suggesting that they have more options on the wing than us, which is just not true. Man city has only one pure winger in Doku, all the other ones are not 1v1 speedsters and arguably Foden and Silva are not wingers at all, as even Pep has mentioned before. Liverpool on the other hand only has Salah and Diaz as pure wingers and their backup is basically Jota and Gakpo, which is very similar to our situation.

I don’t see the point in getting another winger, when we have 5 players who can play those positions, whereas we are very thin in the striker department. And again the discussion about Saka’s playtime, which is becoming really tiring. How often do Salah or Vinicius get rested?

After going down a quick FBRef rabbit hole, I have come to the uneducated conclusion that we need to get Victor Boniface from Leverkusen

Honestly we need superstar quality in attack. A player who can either score 40+ goals or someone who has game breaking qualities like an mbappe.

We need to add that quality at striker or at the 8 position to get to that next level

We don’t need someone to score 40+ goals, that’s not how Mikel wants his teams playing. For the life of I don’t understand how some of you can watch Arsenal so much and seemingly understand so little about the way the manager wants our team to play. Last year our leading goalscorer in the Prem were Gabi and O with 15, and it was also our record goal scoring season in the league with 88. Mikel’s plan is to clearly spread goals around to not let other defenses zero in on one star player or depend on just one 30 goal a year scorer in case of injury.

    We need two more.

Another pacey winger type, preferably a Saka backup/rotation, basically a Martinelli but on the other side.

And a true, world class, goal scoring #9.

Easier said than done though, especially for the second one lol.

I mostly agree with the article:

The issue for me is that Arsenal are a trusted forward short.

There are have 4 and there needs to be 5. Arteta’s hoping Eddie, Reiss or both can be that, but Eddie isn’t hitting the levels and Reiss is barely playing.

A big man seems most logical, but I don’t think we need one. We probably would’ve won the league with Martinelli, Jesus, Saka if we had better depth last year and we’ve seen City and Liverpool perform at record breaking levels without a classic, target man striker

We should get a monster dribbler who can get to the byline and play on the right and left a la Douglas Costa or Ousmane Dembele. This will allow us to play Trossard through the middle more.

I caught the Milan highlights, and was going, you know I wouldn’t not take Ollie G as a option off the bench. Dude misses sitters, but he’s always super professional, and scores enough to be something different off the bench. Also, you know, more competition at goal keeper.

We can’t afford a striker upgrade in January and discussing potential transfers for summer is pointless at this time.

I said it last year - we should have tried to poach Mitrovic from Fulham. Great hold-up play, good skill, proven goalscorer.
