I must admit, i was somehow curious, but no!

It stopped working for me with a vpn. They are really pushing people away at this point.
I guess it’s an issue is profitability. I think long term, these companies can’t survive. It really depends on a community support.

At least the recap was good for some funny self-owns:
I use old Reddit and a third party app, so my recap made no sense
I liked that
Reddit mobile browser is THE definition of asshole design
All of reddit’s newer design is the definition of asshole design. Once old.reddit.com is killed off the site will be as unusable as X or TikTok is on web for logged out users.
I’m kinda surprised they didn’t already kill old.reddit just like they killed 3rd party apps.
Why are you still using reddit?
Why not?
(Also look at the community you are replying in… What use is there on quesrioning why people use reddit on the c/reddit, it’s like when people say “why are you using 4chan” on r/4chan lol)
To be fair, both sites are pretty much gaping shit holes at this point.
I mean, yeah somewhat, I’m just pointing out the idiocy of asking that question in a place specifically designed to talk about those places.
Also, regardless of how bad the sites as a whole are, making the transition fully is just plain too difficult, there are communities that haven’t moved and no matter if you are putting effort to have them here, you won’t be able to get a question about a program answered if there are 3 active people on a community
On top of that while I did quit mostly cold turkey after Apollo shut down, putting Reddit at the end of internet searches especially for games (looking at you planetside and V Rising) really helps me manage to this exact piece of niche information I need
Their app is so shit they have to extort people to use it.
Please get the app
Please
Blocking modal windows are a sin and make me less likely to interact with a site. Imgur is also guilty. No, I don’t want to participate in your community meme event when I’m just trying to look at an image on the app that is clogging up my RAM because you think it does something important and interesting enough to warrant deeplinking it in an electron wrapper.
Also, while I’m here, fuck modal windows with no X to close button which forces you to read the buttons to figure out which one is the “fuck off” button and not the “take all my money” button.
Hey, remember the days of pop-up windows where the X button was labelled “Open in background” if you hovered over it. At least there’s been some progress. \s
Or the:
- open in app
- continue in browser
Every. Fifteen. Minutes.
just not visitinf reddit solved the issue for me
I still visit niche communities on Reddit that have almost zero activity here. Trying to geow them, but it’s not taking off.
I’m glad I have slowly moved away from Reddit, hope we get some sort of Fedi recap stuff in the future as is a really cool idea but glad we don’t get forced to use Apps and stuff.
To a point there’s an interesting balance to be had…
On one hand sure these stats are fun, on the other people on the Fediverse don’t want secret tabs kept on them, or more information collected than necessary.
At least you can go through your profile and look at your top posts and comments.
I would guess it would be instance to instance basis and will most likely have to be 100% transparent with what it’s doing.
Any recap “service” suggests (necessitates, even) that said site is digging deeply through the data it has on you. It’s only function is to normalize the notion that these companies have your data and “it’s really not a big deal because they’re doing this fun stuff with it, right?”
Suffice to say, I’m good without a Fediverse “recap”.
also fun live event
The only way to use Reddit on mobile is to use old Reddit. You have to zoom in to tap on things, but holy hell it’s still so much better than the mobile version of the website.
It’s wild to me that Reddit never developed a reasonably functional mobile version of their site. They bought out a few designs, and relied on 3rd party apps for a while, and now they’re doing their utmost to force everyone to use the garbage pile that is their current design. I just don’t see how it proved such an impossible task for them.
I get the sense that tying their shoelaces is an impossible task for them. That the site is online and running is a damned miracle.
Eh, the worse the experience is, the less I want to use Reddit, which is only good if you ask me.
One of the advantages of being on old reddit like a hopeless geezer is not getting to see that shit.
Doesn’t desktop mode in a mobile browser get around this?
Meh, I opened Reddit just to lurk on the only subreddit I would post on. Recap for that community reminded me it was all one big circle jerk… but now with more advertisements.
2023 isn’t over?
