I like it. OSMand has much more features but on the basic phones I use it’s usually lagging.
Organic Maps is more responsive and that alone is enough reason for me to prefer it.

been using it for a few days now. searching for an adress by number won’t work very well, and if a parking space is public or not can be inaccurate. as well as most businesses in my area not being in the app at all

but it has potential. they should make it easier to find out how to even contribute at all though. i can’t code, so doing changes via pull requests(?) is out of the question.

    overall, usable/10

The data is based on Openstreetmap, and your issues are caused by lack of data.
There’s a real fun way of contributing to Openstreetmap with the Street Complete app.
You take a walk through your neighborhood and solve questions.

If you like this sort of stuff, you can dive deep into the rabbit hole of Openstreetmap. Basically every time I can’t find something I’m looking for, I make a note of it and add it to the map later. It doesn’t require any coding knowledge.

(Now that I think about it, maybe the reason why the US has so much worse Openstreetmap data than Europe is because taking a walk and noting down info about your neighbors’ houses will either get you run over or shot)

Don’t be an asshole. The US has its problems but this is not one. There are lots of strangers that do house to house things.

Map data isn’t built by organic maps themselves but is based on the open streets maps project. It’s kinda Wikipedia where anyone can edit any data. This means that anyone can contribute information. You can easily edit from the https://openstreetmap.org website. As others have pointed out, streetcomplete and everydoor are 2 good applications for contributing from an android phone.

Organic maps updates its maps data every month, so it takes a while for contributions to become visible.

The maintainer refuses to change the goofy 3d direction pointer per requests.

I’ll wait til they fix that.

I don’t really know what your talking about but I think almost all mapping applications have a pointer to show you your current location.

Anyway the important thing is to use free software. If you have a alternative that you like better you should post it in this community.
