I never thought that NK would send troops, but they pulled the trigger on that.

The reasons being:

— How do you keep the NK troops from defecting

— What happens when the war is over and the NK troops go home with tales of life outside NK.

Mostly the focus is on the defecting problem.

The second problem might have a horrifying answer. The NK troops are not going back, or at least none below the rank of commander or are in one of the lower castes of NK society. My understanding is that the “castes” are based on what your family did during the Korean War.

What do you think the odds are that the NK, will either be used as deliberate cannon fodder or summarily executed once they are no longer needed for the war. Or perhaps sent to work gulags, as slave labor. I don’t think Kim would want a few thousand Koreans back in to tell others about the wonders of flush toilets.
