Submission Statement: this is collapse related as it details a zoonotic parasite (rat lungworm) as now calling the Southeastern US home. We can only expect things to get worse as the climate changes and our areas become habitable for parasites and diseases that otherwise would not be able to survive. Also, there has been evidence that the worm has made it to the lungs of humans, but no evidence of a completed lifecycle occurring in humans has been reported. It is also found in crabs and lizards, demonstrating its ability to jump to varying species.
