I love that Sheffield Wednesday is on the map, even though we haven’t seen the premier league since 2000 and bounced between league 1 and championship for the last 2 decades.
We’re fucking massive
I’m not a fan
North West: Liverpool (46) – 19 League titles, 8 FA Cups, 9 League Cups, 6 European Cups/Champions Leagues, 3 UEFA Cups, 1 Club World Cup
London: Arsenal (31) – 13 League titles, 14 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, 1 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, 1 Cup Winners’ Cup
West Midlands: Aston Villa (20) – 7 League titles, 7 FA Cups, 5 League Cups, 1 European Cup
North East: Newcastle United (11) – 4 League titles, 6 FA Cups, 1 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup
East Midlands: Nottingham Forest (9) – 1 League title, 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 European Cups
Yorkshire and the Humber: Sheffield Wednesday (8) – 4 League titles, 3 FA Cups, 1 League Cup
South East: Portsmouth (4) – 2 League titles, 2 FA Cups
East of England: Ipswich Town (3) – 1 League title, 1 FA Cup, 1 UEFA Cup
South West: Swindon Town (1) – 1 League Cup
I always love how Yorkshire whets it’s own section
We’re coming for you Nottingham Forest…
Swansea would be the club for Wales, no? 3 League Cups.
Did the midlands really need more than one section
Yes? West and East Midlands are almost always divided and are quite different
I wouldn’t count the CWC as a major honour tbh. We’re still top without it, but yeah.
Yeah I’d agree. It’s something you don’t even hear about unless someone from England is in it and even then it’s usually just about fixture difficulties. Definitely not a major honour in my mind.
I do agree, it’s one of those trophies that teams use to pump the numbers.
But if that counts then so does the UEFA Super Cup.
And then the Charity/Community Shield might as well count too.
Great post!
I’m counting 1 extra trophy for most of these on wikipedia. Not sure if I’ve missed a thing that a lot of teams have won only 1 of that doesn’t count as a major trophy. I was assuming you were removing super cups from this chart
I didn’t include single-match super cups (the Charity/Community Shield, the European/UEFA Super Cup and the old Intercontinental Cup) but I did include the FIFA Club World Cup as teams need to win more than one game to be champions. I also didn’t include the old Intertoto Cup.
Yeah single games would count as minor trophies so I think your process is correct
Why no Europa league?
I hope you have counted the prestigious Bangkok Centenary Cup in these tallys!
Swindon Town has an Anglo-Italian Cup… More International titles than Wednesday
Fucking Inter Cities Fair Shit Cup Fuck preventing Swindon from having the same amount as Arsenal
4 of the top 8 in the north west, including 1st, 2nd, and two in joint 4th for league titles cos we’re sick up here
Built different yknow
This is pretty cursed, I like it
: )
How can Arsenal be the most successful club in London when Chelsea has two champions league trophies? The prestige of each trophy should be taken into account.
Arsenal have more than double the league titles Chelsea has for starters…
Fuck da money, a real club that’s why
Never realised how far into the North West the East Midlands extend
Can we at least have the Peak District?
Derbyshire borders Greater Manchester.
Sheffield Wednesday 😂😂😂
Yeah, I was shocked at that too, they’ve got 8 vs our 7.
Though they’ve only won a single league cup since WW2, whereas we’ve won all our trophies between 1968 and 1992.
Not far behind Newcastle to be fair, and won a proper trophy much more recently
Sick of this Intertoto disrespect.
Our certificate is glorious
I remember Sheffield Wednesday reaching both cup finals when I was younger, though they lost them both to Arsenal. At the time I associated their success with Chris Waddle and their relegation with him getting older. He was a brilliant player, but looking back they had a few internationals in that side:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_FA_Cup_final
Don’t remember Newcastle winning anything either though they had a fantastically entertaining team that lead the league for ages under Keegan (the “I’d love it if we beat them” season)
No one’s left alive from those days, but those days still exist!
Now make one for “Most successful club in each region of England based on most recent European title won”
Then make one for “Most club goals scored for each region of England based on who scored the most recent goal”
Just do the most recent major trophy thanks
Kerry Mucklowe screaming, cheering, crying right now. Swindon are massive.
Best comedy on UK telly in the past decade
I love that the Ipswich badge features a horse doing a cheeky stepover.
Now that’s a proper reason to support a football club.
Unfortunately, the Suffolk Punch breed is categorised as critically endangered by the UK’s Rare Breeds Survival Trust, although their numbers do appear to be increasing gradually. It’s been featured on the ITFC badge since 1972, and in its current form since 1995.
are you going to write an essay about this topic because your comment is awesome.
Well if they stopped doing fancy stepovers and just played the game, maybe they’d stop getting nobbled by the opposition.
Nay-mar
Who isn’t spelling it Neigh-mar, seriously.
Neigh-mare
“NEIGH-MARE”
Ron-nay-ldo
I love the word “cheeky”. It’s one of the greatest things that the UK has invented.
Thank you Gabriela and Monica for inventing it
Ooh cheeky cheeky
I approve of this thread
I really didn’t like the one where counties were shaded in the colour of the highest finishing team in each. This is much better.
Fun graphic but I feel these work better with “trophy weighting”
EC/CL 3 points
League title 3 points
UEFA Cup/EL 2 points
All other cups 1 point
A European Cup is worth a hell of a lot more than a league title.
That’s very debatable I’d say a league title is worth more than the CL just because the fourth best team in the league can win the CL
Doesn’t matter much we finish top any way
Edit bizarre downvote reaction to this idea.
Because there isn’t a chance in hell the Europa League is worth more than a League Cup or FA Cup.
Wednesday died for this :(
