It crazy how bad or unlucky Havertz is at creating chances, he has created 1 chance in our last 6 games.
All our starting midfielders and wingers created atleast 2 chances last night apart from Havertz, it was a big fat zero for him, for the 3rd game in a row.
how is someone unlucky at creating chances ?
Even when I believe football is a tonne of small contributions— a block, an aerial duel, a foul, all can win a game, I hopped off his defence wagon because I don’t “defend” bad finishers in the final third.
I’m indifferent now; can’t be one of those people that make it their day job to insult him, but also can’t be out there overcompensating his deficiencies with paragraphs. The manager and time will make him work BUT for me, it doesn’t matter who you are, bad finishing is inexcusable. It’s exactly why I started advocating for winger-Jesus instead of striker-Jesus.
That header is a goal. That ONE chance vs United was a goal. I don’t need someone to have Son levels of finishing but at least be a tier below. Kai has been embarrassing at that for a final third player.
But you’re also an advocate for Toney. Yes we need his profile (even though I think Nketiah can be that), but he is not a great finisher, and not for the price Brentford will demand. Even worse, having Toney will require us to change how Saka and Martinelli play, and how we create chances, unlike Jesus. Or more, simply get a new wide player or drop Odegaard for Vieira.
I also think Jesus is better on the wing, and possibly a better right winger than Saka, but I don’t hold that view just to then suggest we buy Toney.
I don’t agree with the £70M price tag either but the thing about Toney is that at least he combines and adds a few traits that we are projecting to be of good help.
He’s good in the air. None of our forwards are that good there. He’s strong. Jesus is, and so is Eddie but Toney is a bit stronger. He has a good ball striking. Jesus seems not to have it, Eddie does, but not as good. Then finally, he has the simplicity of a box striker. The ‘just smash the ball in if you’re in range’ - see Trossard.
I’d very much prefer Osimhen(prolific) or Ferguson(age) but at a reasonable fee, Toney.
Not crazy, more so expected. We all knew he was bad but didn’t want to admit it since the price tag was so heavy.
