It probably gets 95% of the calls right. FIFA says 99.3% but I don’t think so. Still, if it didn’t exist everyone would be crying to implement technology like they did before. Think of all the goals/no goals that have been rightfully overturned. Even if there are some horrible calls sometimes, the good calls outweigh the bad ones.
It was fine to start with, it seemed pretty consistent although boring with goals being ruled.out for having a toe offside 40 yards away from goal. (That’s fixed by listening to Wenger’s recommendation if a pet of the player is onside, then they are onside)
However this season we are seeing subjective and wildly inconsistent decisions being made. There are clearly.teams who have benefited from dodgy var more and teams that have frankly had the entire dynamic of Their season so far tainted by key, incorrect decisions going against them - and seeing the same decisions not given or even reviewed in other matches.
Offsides, violent conduct and penalty calls is all it should be used for and those rules cleared up to push consistency of interpretation across the referees.
Wenger’s recommendation is utterly stupid. Then we will be looking whether an offside player is having a toe onside ahahaha nothing will change, that’s utterly stupid and I don’t get how hard is for people to understand.
Honestly? We used to have ‘can you see daylight’ as the rule and it worked a lot better.
But to answer your utterly dismissive statement it’s actually very simple- people want to be entertained - goals are harder to score it’s why all the contenders for GOAT are forwards.
When you rule out a goal for a toe being offside - you are rewarding defenders for standing in a straight line - that is it no other skill or talent involved.
When you are allowing a goal to stand because a toe was onside - you could be rewarding a timed prun, an incredible pass, a brilliant shot or a fantastic team move. At the moment all of those things are being ruled out by a toe being offside fairly regularly and it’s a massive downer.
It isn’t exactly the same not even remotely
