Can someone please help me understand why there are so many DNS servers. If CloudFlair, Google, and many others have their own DNS which outrank the ISP’s why do the ISP’s still maintain their own. Wouldn’t it make more sense for them to just use one from the big guys. I’m in Canada with Rogers as my ISP and their internet goes down a few times a year simply because their DNS server fails.

    You can change your DNS on your network or manually on your device likely. If not, bridge your Rogers cable modem and buy your own router

    They provide their own DNS for speed of resolving since they peer with lots of content providers
