Isn’t Wenger calling for 2 year World Cups ?
Lol.
Plus a “Sven Goran-Eriksson Good Guy” reference.
What an article!
I absolutely fucking hate international break
International competitions should take priority over club competitions.
Wenger also supported a world cup every two years…
This is why I’m worried about brendford away. We tend to play bad when the players are back from international games.
Player welfare is so far down at the bottom of the list of priorities. It’s sad. Players should speak up. No matter how well they are paid, making them put their bodies through this schedule is just inhumane. Look at the domestic calendar for December. It’s bordering on abusive.
When Tchouameni spoke up you had players like Petit and a lot of supporters of all ages going all out against him. I thought it was crazy, unfortunately as always we’re waiting for something dramatic to happen before we act on it.
And besides the health of the players, with all those games and competitions football obviously loses some of what makes it interesting. And by the looks of it the solution we’ve found is basically the super league with 10-20 clubs hoarding every top players in the world to play as many games as possible.
Sadly, it’s the lack on financial incentive for national teams to place the same long term interest in the player’s welfare (although many clubs also can be wrecked in this regard). I can’t see any way around it that wouldn’t end up getting abused by either side, unfortunately.
Players want to play these matches though - mostly because it’s not in a vacuum. If you pass up on international matches then you probably won’t get picked to play for your team once they do qualify since you turned your back on them. You also have to assume that many, if not all, of them actually WANT to represent their country even when they’re tired and/or injured so it’s not just about the tournaments.
Coaches should just rotate more then
