I think people are making a bigger deal than necessary over this and to a huge extent, this is his own doing. I doubt any top GK is 100% switched on over 100mins when lots of the time, his team has the ball in possession in higher zones on the pitch and the ball isn’t coming back to him unless they get pressured and want to reset.
Besides, even if im completely wrong and GKs are expected to be super focused for 100mins like a deer trying to avoid incoming traffic, it is kinda naive to out yourself in public, very unnecessary i feel. From a professional standpoint, is that something you’d want your employer to hear, or potential employers or opposition? Just feels…too honest and naive. I get that he may want to come across as more human and approachable but surely not to the extent of making himself look bad.
Say he gets caught out by another 60-70 yard shot, then the rhetoric is going to be “was he fully focused and in the right position, have they identified that potential flaw in training and are working on it?” He’s been naive i feel, why air your dirty laundry when current day media are more than happy to go over the top and do it for you. The very fact that people are digging this interview up months after when he’s barely played as some possible explanation on why he was dropped speaks to him not doing himself any favours by outing himself.
Yeah it isn’t right in the way he has presented it. It’s a perfectly fine thing to do in the way of “I like get the opposition and home fans engaged with me in order to focus more upon the game as the atmosphere really helps me as a player” but the way he’s presented it is wrong. “I like to muck around with the crowd because I find it hard to concentrate in a game” is the same thing presented incredibly terribly.
It’s like telling your employer at a job interview that you like to post on reddit in between tasks. Everyone does it and it might actually help you focus between work streams but you should not discuss that at all with your employer! It makes you look unprofessional.
