I wonder if that Chelsea game exposed City at all. Until now nobody’s really had the balls to really play them in an open game and really press them. They looked very vulnerable.

Stones missing was key as well as Akanji being the inverted DM didn’t help, making the back 3 of Walker, Dias and Gvardiol at bit too vulnerable under the counter facing the pace of Sterling, Palmer, Gallagher and Jackson running wild.

While Man City are still a great team, I think that after winning the league for the last 5-6 seasons (?) and winning the treble last season they might drop off a bit. They’re still going to be up there of course, but drawing 4-4 with Chelsea and losing the lead 4 times in one game is uncharacteristic of them.

But tbf, I said something similar last season and they went on to win the treble haha.

Yeah this is very wishful thinking. They’re still top of the league. And are notorious elite finishers down the stretch so games like this is nothing but water off their backs

Simple answer is there’s only one Stone, who is able to provide cover for Rodri. Rodri isn’t Makalele.

“nobody’s really had the balls to really play them” is a very reductive statement. Klopp’s Liverpool is just one example that disproves this.

Circumstance is more relevant than anything. City missing key players, City having an elite outlet as ST but someone who’s completely disconnected from buildup, Pep trying different tactics that didn’t come off (some tacticos think its his worst game for City). On top of that Poch absolutely nailed it, like he did v Arsenal, but this time didn’t fuck things up with subs.

My point is more in line with your second paragraph. This season specifically. Their squad is not the same, also injuries. They are more vulnerable than they’ve ever been. So I’m hoping that other managers will go for it while they’re nursing important injuries their left side is still not clicking just yet.
