Hope this isn’t taken down with the new rules but I was curious if there’s any players who supported a certain club but never actually ended up playing for that team.

The example that springs to mind is Zidane with Marseille. 🩵

Any others?

Heard Pele actually grew up supporting Cardiff but his parents didn’t know wales was a country and wouldn’t let him leave to play in an oceanic animal.

Loads of prominent Liverpool players over the years have been reported as boyhood Everton fans. Carragher is an obvious one, Gerrard has been strongly rumoured although there seems to be some denial around it, Robbie Fowler grew up an Evertonian as did Michael Owen (his dad started his career at Everton), Steve McManaman admits he grew up as an Everton fan.

Paul Scholes was rumoured to be an Oldham fan. He denied it. Nicky Butt was rumoured to support City. Giggs grew up a Cardiff fan. Joey Barton supported Everton. Leighton Baines supported Liverpool. Danny Welbeck was an Arsenal and United fan though he played for them both in the end. Ravel Morrison was and still is a Gooner. I think Bale supported United. Rio Ferdinand supported Liverpool. David May was a City fan. Kenny Dalglish supported Rangers. Fowler, Mcmanaman, Owen and Carragher supported Everton. Luke Shaw supported Chelsea. Jadon Sancho supported Chelsea. Wan Bissaka was Arsenal I think, not sure on that.
