I was watching some all-time XI’s by former footballers and analysists and was asking to myself: “Did football start in the 90’s for these people?”

I understand that people will always be biased towards the players that they got to experience and have an attachment to, but do you think that players from the old era like Eusebio, Rivera, Meazza, Di Stefano, Etc… are underrated compared to modern legends?

You know what it is. Ofcourse right now, ALMOST everyone alive today has not seen Maradona play live. You can have a great admiration for players like Maradona, Garrincha, Pelé, Eusebio etc. But the fact of the matter is that if you take anyone of those players in their prime and put them up against the teams we have now, they would choke. The defenders from the 60s 70s and so on were terrible. Put someone like Pelé against VVD or Ramos or Maldini he would shit his pants.

It’s great ofcourse to admire them, because they were in fact very good (in their time). But they’re irrelevant right now. It’s a shame that we will never be able to test this hypothesis but we all know it’s true.
