The main aim of signing Ronaldo for Juventus was clearly to win the Champions league, which they didn’t achieve. I see this as the main reason why people claim Ronaldo wasn’t a good signing for Juventus. As well as him being one of the main reasons for Juventus’ economic issues.
Juventus were already the dominant force in Italian football before he joined (6 titles in a row) so it’s hard to say he actually improved them which does raise questions about the value for money they got from him. You have to think that they would have been able to maintain that dominance for far longer by signing a couple of very good younger players for £50m each rather than one 35yr old for 100m
Ronaldo to juve was the same as messi to psg, the goal was to win everything ucl included but failed not cuz of ronaldo or messi but because the shit midfield and weak defense they had.
Hmm, nah id argue messi was dogshit in psg compared to ronaldo at juve
Not according to the few juve fans I know. They all thought it was all for marketing, but the team went down coincidentally after he came and they haven’t recovered from it. I’m happy to see them fall though, so for me, yes he was.
Without him they might have relegated (obviously exaggerated but you get the point), the rest of the team was really bad.
It led to Juves downfall tbh
Coarse it was. He gave his last lemon squeeze before he left the club but still destroyed in Manchester United
He did exactly what was expected of him.
The whole Juventues team was a mess though.
No. He was not the only problem but they likely would have won the Serie A titles and ended up in a better position if they had been smarter in their transfers instead of recruiting the players that they did irl.
You’re not wrong, but judging by the comments, I need to make something clear.
Juventus was the strongest team in Italy at that time, reaching the finals of the UCL twice and was always a tough test for opponents, can’t believe people would call players like Bonucci, Chiellini, Pjanic, Matuidi, Dybala, Mandzukic, and so on, weak players who failed CR7 in his task.
Getting eliminated by, no offense, Ajax, Lyon and Porto in the UCL raised question marks regarding things including what could the attack, CR7 included, have done better.
It was one of the wrong decisions by the management, the team was functioning well as a whole until this transfer happened, and we all know CR7 is a perfect finisher, but also a player who would never fit in teams that should function as a whole, instead he will embrace the spotlight to himself rather than serve the team’s said plan.
The only part where anyone would blame CR7, is him deciding to leave Real Madrid when he was technically one of their pillars at that time and a perfect fit for their system.
Porto fan. You’re absolutely right.
Cristiano got his goals but the facts are that Juventus was better before he arrived and got eliminated by inferior opposition repeatedly.
Correlation doesn’t equal causality, but we’re stating facts.
There was some financial issues and papa perez disapproval of him, that led to his departure from madrid
The thing is if you look at Madrid’s history of contracts, RMA always awards 1 year contracts to aging players, see Ramos, CR7 himself and now Modric, they are extending the contract by one year but not more than that and CR7 didn’t like that, so he left.
It was not. The goal was to win UCL. Juventus were UCL finalists a few times the years before he arrived. He was supposed to get them over the line.
Have you looked at the average age of the juventus team that reached the final a couple of years before he arrived, there were like two players under the age of 30 in the whole team, by the time Ronaldo arrived two years on, they obviously weren’t as strong
No. He never made it back to ucl semis or won another ballon dor and prior to that he was close to catching Messi. Despite his impressive stats while playing for them, Juventus style of football does not fit Ronaldo and his preferred style of football which is up-tempo and fast paced. He was better off staying in Madrid for another year or going to a team like Psg, the only problem on that team would be the egos and Neymar care-free attitude but under the right coach they would be more successful than juventus were in the ucl.
No. Although he played well, Juve’s overall performance suffered. They didn’t win anything special.
It’s not for Juventus since it fucked them over due to the fee and insane wage, the effects was so severe up to this day.
When you pay Aaron average Ramsey 400k a week that’s the results you should expect
He played very well, but it was a bad decision, and wasn’t the way the go for Juve if they really wanted to remain on top. The team was aging and bringing in Ronaldo wasn’t going to stop the team from aging and gradually regressing without any other signings. An unfortunate transfer for both sides, Juve crushed their financials leaving them no room to buy top players (Particularly in the midfield), and Ronaldo spent 3 years of his career with an aging team that was getting worse and worse despite him scoring as much as he could.
