In form Partey is maybe the most underrated player I’ve ever seen play in the prem.

He was giving out world class level performances as shown by our win rate with and without him.

His injury and then drop in form last season cost us massively.

I am so happy we have Rice - he’s been better than I thought but realistically we really need another player who can play DM

Partey is potentially finished and Jorginho does not fill me with any confidence whatsoever.

I really don’t know why finding a young player with a similar profile wasn’t a priority given that we’ve known his injury record

We spent a record fee for a replacement. The best DM profile in the world.

What we messed up with was the LCM profile. Basically, we replaced Thomas, but not Xhaka and that’s what we could be in the market for.

Now, what happens with Kai Havertz remains to be seen. If he wakes up from slumber, he has to start either for form, or the board justifying the £65M.

It’s pretty hard to find tbf, probably the closest profile we’ve had since Cazorla but built defensively like a destroyer

I think a really close profile to Partey would be Manu Koné, but he’s young and not there as a 6. He’s similar to Partey with the same age. Very good on the ball and dribbling in tight spaces, physical with good defensive attributes. What he lacks is the line breaking passes and vision. Would Arteta settle for another young profile? I don’t know, at this point our project probably demands ready now players.

      pretty rough graph for havertz

graph clearly shows we shouldve signed john mcginn as the xhaka replacement instead lol

I’m fairly sure we’re not meant to be looking at anything except the chart as a whole.

For example, we might look at Bissouma more or less level with Thomas in Take on Success and think, ‘With a less catastrophic manager, he might have been a decent backup,’ and find that reflected in his play so far this season.

We might look at where Douglas Luiz sits in relation to Kovacic and see a glimpse of what Arteta has seen in him as a potential signing in the past couple of years.

You might wonder where Declan Rice is.

You might see Jorginho in the bottom left with Casemiro.

      Usw.

The graph only includes players from the traditional top 6 teams + newcastle and villa. Rice would be here if west ham was included as well. Based on his leagues stats from last season, he’d be slightly ahead of Douglas Luiz (1.73 take-ons per 90 with a 55.6% success rate compared to Luiz’s 1.35 with a 54.5% success rate).

One of the myths this would appear to put to bed is that Pep and Arteta don’t want their 6s to take opponents on.

Clearly, they do. Those are not just passive ball recyclers.

The difference is that Thomas does it both even more frequently and even more successfully than Rodri.

That a similar relationship exists between KdB and Ødegaard might suggest that this is something Arteta wants, generally from his midfielders: both that he wants them to do more often, and that he wants them to be better at.

Confused how mahrez and havertz are so low, Mahrez is really good at it and Kai hardly attempts it

I mean, according to this, Kai attempts take-ons more than the PL average for midfielders; he just succeeds somewhat less often than Sean Longstaff.

Why is Havertz there when most of the last season Chelsea played him as a target man?

Can see why we wanted Bissouma. His take on percentage is up there w/ Partey. Attrmpts were way lower last season (0.3 per game) but they’re way higher this season (1.9 per game) with Ange ball. For context, Partey averaged 1.5 per game last season. So Bissouma’s on course to hit 60+ assuming the same number of apps as last season. Big IF to maintain that level though.
