Completely torn ACL at 19. Can’t get any worse than that.

There is zero chance of him coming back as the player he was and even if he comes back strong he’ll be fighting with it for the rest of his career.

Wirtz is playing a great season so far and he had a similar injury at a young age. Not saying it’s possible for everyone but there’s certainly a possibility that the injury won’t affect him in the future.

I get your point but zero means zero.

I’m not saying he can’t recover and become a great player despite this. However a fully torn ligament will never heal 100% and will always be a liability.

It’s a hard truth. Way too much evidence across multiple sports. Fucking sucks.

A fully torn ACL cannot heal at all, it has to be replaced. The stability of the graft depends on how the injury is managed for the first year to strengthen it.

Zaniolo didn’t come back as the same but he was still great, but after the second he was the shadow of the great player he was

I think he certainly can get back from it. The biggest issue is probably to get back into the same balls to the walls mental state. The knee won’t feel exactly the same and that can be quite mentally challenging when you play like Gavi and throw yourself into any situation without fear.

It would have been much worse if he based a lot of his game on acceleration for example, but he doesn’t.
