I am using my S10+ for 4 years now and I have no reason to get a new phone apart from the lack of updates. It feels old without updates, if you understand what I mean. What is a big downside for not getting any updates anymore? Security maybe?

Coming from Apple my old IPhone was supported for what felt like ages.

I could spend the money on a new phone but I don’t really see the point. I don’t want to spend it just so I can get new updates. The S10+ just feels perfect, it’s crazy to me how good the battery is + performance and everything else. The phone also just looks good. It has no fault apart form regular updates.

Could you maybe list some reason why I should get a new phone or why I should still wait.

Usually it’s said, once your phone stops receiving security updates, you should stay away from online banking or handling sensitive data.

If you only use your phone for calls, texts, YouTube etc. you can use it until it breaks.

And then here is me, running banking apps on a rooted device with no security updates whatsoever. This may be the only reason I upgrade soon.

as long as you’re not downloading sketchy stuff and have safe bank-keeping measures, keep using the rooted phone. As a matter of fact, I’m considering rooting my own galaxy s10e sometime soon and installing a quicker version of android. Mine runs on a Exynos chip and OneUI is starting to get slow. Really slow.

          have safe bank-keeping measures

          like a PIN/PW/pattern, of course

for me, i only turn that on whenever i have PIN-worthy files
