Anyone in any job gets criticism if they fuck up on numerous occasions it’s perfectly normal and correct. Why do the PGMOL think it is immune to criticism? God complex much? Embarrassing.

Good. The treatment of officials is appalling from grass roots to the prem.

The Arteta incident encapsulated the problem. Three subjective calls were made, no clear and obvious error, goal given. Yet Arteta goes on a ridiculous rant because subjective calls went against him.

Football needs to take a lesson from rugby in how ref’s are treated.

Fans, managers and players being constantly abused and harassed: Nothing

Referees getting some deserved criticism: OUTRAGEOUS!!

PGMOL better be facing fines for fucking up so severely, so frequently. It’s not the managers’ fault when the standard of officiating is so low!

The FA are responsible for overseeing all aspects of the amateur and professional game. The day after Arteta’s comments I was voluntarily running the line of an under 12s match and I got a barrage of petty abuse from the coaching staff of an under 12s team. I wasn’t doing it for fun, I was doing it just because someone had to or the kids don’t get to play. Grassroots football has a massive problem with getting referees for matches. Referees might need to improve, processes for decision might need to be improved, but the whole pyramid needs to have referees and they need to be treated with a baseline of respect.

I just wish they’d start by actually staying. In. Their. Box. Area.

    So annoying.

Fines don’t mean anything to these rich clubs so I can’t see that as much of a deterrent.

In east we had authoritarian communism, FA and PGMOL increasingly start to look like one using same tactics

Imagine getting tough on criticism of referees rather than getting tough on referees…

Nah don’t even consider that it’s the refs inconsistencies and incompetence could be the issue. Just tell everyone to shut the fuck up. Games back lads

Feel free to downvote me but honestly? I’d rather the refs have these powers.

Make it like rugby. Mic up the refs and don’t take any dissent whatsoever.

Only the captain speaks directly to ref, with permission.

Players surrounding the ref? Yellows for all.

Being stroppy over a decision? Yellow.

Manager going off at ref? Send them away.

Watch how fast the manchildren learn to control their behaviour

I agree. What people are failing to understand from your post is this: if what you’ve said came to be, the media and fans would crucify bad refs after we were able to hear the conversations behind the bad calls. We don’t need players and managers doing it mid game.

the Premier League—where you can’t criticize piss poor refereeing, but financial doping and cheating is encouraged for oil clubs because there are no consequences.

Some of you people need to lower your expectations. Your best player can miss a penalty or make a stupid challenge and you’ll defend them to the death but God forbid a referee should make a mistake every now and again.

There’s a desperate need to be outraged by everything that doesn’t go in one’s favour. Understand this, none of you are important, your football team isn’t important. The mere fact we exist at all with all the sheer luck involved in us being here is a miracle, yet you chose to focus your collective psyche on football referees rather than enjoying yourself. Go and look at some nature and have a really deep think about how pathetic you are.
