Hello there fellow humans,
I am posting this today because my best friend is feeling stuck with samsung phones (cloning everything from device to device over the years) and the only reason she does this is because she has lost her mother a few years back to cancer, and that everything, from snapchat photos to regular samsung-backed photos to (the most important according to her) her final text messages are … well … on her samsung phone. Cloned over and over again.
For now she’s okay with samsung phones, but I do not think that she fully understands what could happen if her last device with these informations remaining was to die horribly to a bathroom toilet or theft.
As such I am asking my fellow humans: is there ANY way to back EVERYTHING up (messages apparently get top priority) onto something less … proprietary?
I mean, death is what awaits us all, she cannot be the only one that wants to back up everything in a safe place that could be easily accessed and then let me help her by making the data so redundant that even AWS would blush.
Many thanks in advance :)
Photos: use Google Photos. Any device… phone, computer, tablet can all access Google photos.
Messages: Most samsung devicesthese days also have Google messaging. Much like photos, These can be accessed from any device.
So should anything happen, she won’t need to worry.
I haven’t tried this option before, but try to search ‘backup’ in settings and click the first option! There should be one that mentions something about external backup. Maybe you can try that if you want a physical backup. I suppose you can also do the temp backup in Samsung’s cloud until you maybe get a new device? Or maybe copy data onto multiple devices? It’s all up to you.
I’m really sorry about your friend’s mother. I’m wishing her all the best <3
