Hi guys. iPhone user since 2009. They have Galaxy S23 Plus on discount for Black Friday for only 699 euros here in Italy.
Does it make sense to ditch iPhone for Galaxy? Or will I get a bad deal?
The thing that is bothering me about iPhone is the prices. If you want an iPhone with a large and smooth screen, you’re forced to buy iPhone 15 Pro Max at 1399 euros.
That is DOUBLE the price of the Galaxy.
There is iPhone 15 Plus for 999 but it has a 60 Hz screen, which I hate. And it would still be a leap from 699 to 999, not a little.
Who among you has switched from iOS to Android? Good or bad idea? What will I miss? And what will I love? Thanks!
That depends. Do you have an Apple ecosystem? if not you shouldn’t have had an iphone in the first place.
If I have the money to buy an iphone or a Galaxy? I will still buy the Galaxy. Lots of features I use that are just not on the iphone.
I mean in my country is pretty much same price. However I could buy iPhone 15 for like 800€ but that phone is smuggled in my country by some individual selling it without import tax etc. They give you some “written warrenty” which is pretty much fake and they don’t cover shit. So I had to pay iPhone 15 like 1050€ in legit store. But it’s same with Galaxy phones so yea.
Commenting on my S23 Ultra. I’m a tech junkie and I’ve been using both OSes simultaneously for the longest time. Here’s my 2 cents to help you decide.
-
If you know what you are doing, the change from iOS to Android will be seamless and even fun for the most part, otherwise, it will be a painstaking experience.
-
Ignore the customization part of the comments. In all honesty, I do it where I customize the hell out of my android phone. If you’re just an everyday user though, go back to point number 1 because you will find it a pain in the arse just to do it. Basic customization though is fairly simple and accessible. And remember, the novelty always wears off after some time.
-
Someone already said this but this is very-very important. If you’re already baked in Apple ecosystem, then forget about Android, let alone the Samsung on discount as most of your stuffs will not work as intended the moment you switch to Android.
-
Lastly, it’s just a phone. Unless you absolutely in dire need of the latest and greatest, just get the 14 Pro Max. Should save you some money and use the saved money to buy lightning to USB-C adapter.
Cheers!

iPhone 15 Pro Max: Double the price, better camera
S23 Plus: Half the price, limitless customisation and a lot of amazing software features which are not available on iOS.
In my opinion, if you are a VERY serious photographer, get the iPhone, otherwise get S23 Plus because it has everything that iPhone 15 Pro Max has other than the camera but it has a lot of features to make up for it.
If you’re a VERY serious photographer, you buy a dedicated camera.
If you’re a serious photographer buy a proper camera or a xperia 1 at the very least
Xperia 1 camera is shit in auto mode
not horrible but not great. if you’re a serious photographer youre likely not using the auto function on the camera tho
Only reason not to switch would be
- massive use of icloud, you’ll need to switch to google drive/google photo.
- peripherals like airpods/apple watch/airtag… not working as seamlessly. With ipad and macbook it’s not that big of a deal because they will still work on their own independently of the phone. You’ll miss airdrop, but there are several alternatives.
Reason to switch:
- price
- faster charge times
- open eco system bonus: alternative ways to buy services for everything (iykyk)
Other than that they are both very good phones good at what they need to do.
699€ S23+ from UNIEURO🇮🇹 is a crazy good deal seeing how phone prices have hiked up the last year. And you get 8-256gb out of the box. You’ll have to wait for october 2024 to see if they put 120hz on the iphone 16 plus to have a viable alternative.
Also i might add, s23 is a very good generation for switching because in Italy we’re getting the same phone as the rest of the world for the first time and maybe last time since s24 is rumored not to do it anymore. (Little explanation required: Samsung reserves the really good processor for USA market where the battle with iphone is harder, UE usually gets the lesser processor. BUT NOT THIS TIME👌🏻 for “reasons”)
How long are you planning to keep the phone? I did find Samsungs support for older phones to be pretty lacklustre. They tend to drop support a few years into newer models. Even when they update, it’s slow. At that point you would need to install new third party firmware for customization.
iPhones seem to continually update fairly promptly. A friend of mine has an iPhone XS and he gets regular updates even now. That phone came out in 2018.
Well, I use both IOS and Android and I can say for use is that I enjoy using my android phone more than the IOS. I am looking at upgrading my S22 to probably S23. I will check on CryptMI to see what it’s selling at.
iPhone
If your friends/family use iMessage it might bother you to lose access to this and have green text messages it may not seem like a big deal but it’s quite a lifestyle adjustment going to Android.
Its not just Iphone prices that are crazy high.
Iphone repairs too are the most expensive, even for 60hz screens or battery replacement.
Same story with audio. Airpods 2nd gen are a joke for their price, or even airpods pro.
Same story with Apple watches and Ipads.
This is why people avoid like the plague the apple ecosystem.
S23 or android in general obviously isnt perfect, but it sure is friendlier to your pocket and you also have many options compared to apple.
Have a 14 Pro Max and an S23 Ultra. Hardly ever use the 14 Pro Max tbh.
The Samsung has the better convenience in terms of what Android can do (seriously you will HATE Apple once you fall in love with Universal swipe to go back on the right side of the phone), and it’s a more fun phone to use. Scrolling speeds on any app on Android are lightning quick and 120hz looks very smooth as a result. IOS scrolling feels slow once you see Android.
If you ever get bored, there is a lot of tinkering you can do to keep the phone looking fresh.
The key selling point of iPhones is they are incredibly smooth, have higher quality apps, better battery life and are more consistent in terms of performance.
Hii, glad that you are open to a change.
At this point in time, Android (specially Galaxy) and iPhones both are excellent and Samsung has really worked on its flaws. But, if you do go ahead with the Galaxy, remember that it is a new OS for you and so don’t get frustrated & think it is subpar if things are different to you are used to. However, learning Android is much more easier coming from iPhone than it is vice versa.
Things you will fall in love when using an Android -
-
The universal back gestures. Apple brought gestures (if I remember correctly) but Android has perfected it. Just this makes using iPhone a decade old experience. No need to stretch your fingers all the way to top left corner just to go back.
-
Unlike Apple, there are always multiple ways to do even simple things. For example - for bring the notification panel you can slide from top of screen (like Apple) but also just swipe down anywhere on the homescreen.
-
Tonnes of customisation options. I am not even talking about very advanced things but even little things throughout the UI.
Now there are a tonne of other things that I can list out. The S23 plus is as snappy as phones get and for the price - unbeatable! Yes the iPhone 15 pro Max will have better camera but s23 plus will also be excellent (we are talking about a flagship device) and you are not going to be comparing both side by side. But the additional convenience and intuitive UI you will enjoy everytime you use the phone.
The only thing you should consider is if you are deep into the Apple ecosystem. Apple watch won’t work but you can still use airpods with Android phones just like any other TWS earbud. And Samsung’s ecosystem is almost at par with Apple now.

Can you share the s23 deak link please
Samsung is cheaper because everyone knows not to pay full price for them and their resale value is reflects that.
