So one goalkeeper has played 7 Premier League games this season and the other has played 5 so it’s clear that the manager wants to and does utilise two number 1 goalkeepers, that’s despite neither of them being able to keep a single clean sheet this season which shows it’s obviously hampering the team.
You think I’m talking about Ramsdale, Raya and Arteta right? Nope.
Steele, Verbruggen and De Zerbi at Brighton.
The media have had their pants in a twist all season over the situation with Ramsdale and Raya, despite there not being a situation at all, Raya is clearly number one and Ramsdale, well, isn’t. Every club (almost every club) has a number one and a back up and Arsenal are no different. So why has this been made such a big deal out of when Brighton quite literally have and use two number 1 goalkeepers to their detriment and no one has said a word?
If it’s because Arsenal are a far bigger club so it’s more of a story then that shows they don’t really give a shit about the situation, they just want to have a pop at Arsenal as usual.
Yawn, this shit again?
The funny part is the implication that both Raya and Ramsdale are #1 goalkeeper-level.
Now Arsenal are in a situation where they’ve dropped one guy for another guy who has already shown he needs to be upgraded on before they’ve even made the mandatory purchase for the guy.
I’m ok with either considering we have the best defense in the league right now.
Yeah, but you shouldn’t be, as both keepers have cost Arsenal during pivotal moments during their short time in North London.
It’s the way Arteta wants them to play out of the back and to force a move from the other teams press. It’s risky and easy to make mistakes. One thing, Rammy’s mistakes usually ended up in goal, at least Raya has kept his out for the most part. He’s definitely our #1 and should be.
I know what the plan in possession is. Ramsdale’s problem is that he can’t execute it and has poor shot stopping abilities. Raya’s problem is that his positioning as a goalkeeper is a joke, on top of being too small to begin with, so every cross is a threat. But at least he catches some crosses. Ramsdale slaps them towards the edge of the box.
The point isn’t that one should start over the other. The point is that Arsenal needs a goalkeeper who’s up to standards.
Well, you can wish in one hand and shit in the other and see what fills up first, lol, it ain’t happening anytime soon seeing as we’re going to sign Raya to a contract and not sure there is much better available right now.
Doesn’t mean I can’t comment on that being a mistake. I’m not under the illusion that my words are influential. But the goalkeeper situation will be a problem for the present and the future.
I agree with some of your points, but Ramsdale being a poor shot stopper I disagree with, he’s been quite good from what I’ve seen.
Might be recency bias, but West Ham in the League Cup is an example of what I’m talking about. I also don’t like how he processes shots in the lower far corner.
