My hot take is that he was a phenomenally talented player, just wasn’t physically cut out for the top level. When he had that one extended spell in the team, he produced a few assists that were as good as anything Ozil did at the club. He obviously couldn’t keep it up but still had a pretty amazing career.
His career was pretty cool. New club almost every season. Played in La Liga, Serie A, Premier League, and Ligue One. Played in three World Cups. Scored in a World Cup against Uruguay. 100+ caps for his country.
One of my favorite journeymen players ever. Considering Arsenal bought him for a rumored $1M, he went and had a pretty fun adventure.
He was pretty decent when he started a few games! I think some players weren’t given a real chance/ run of games- Carlos Vela, Joel Campbell & Lucas Perez
Joel Campbell

Wait why? I thought he was decent, and anyway he didn’t play that much did he?

Always thought he’d have been exceptional if he exchanged about 10 pounds of fat for muscle
it did seem like it was a work ethic issue rather than a talent one
