Once again, it’s opinion-based and everyone is allowed to discuss whether they agree or disagree.
10: Alex Meret
9: Yassine Bounou
8: Marc Andre Ter Stegen
7: Andre Onana
6: Yann Sommer
5: Nick Pope
4: Mike Maignan
3: Thibaut Courtois
2: Alisson
1: Ederson
Honorable Mentions: Ivan Provedel, Aaron Ramsdale, Hradecky, Alex Remiro, David de Gea, Brice Samba, Koen Casteels & Jan Oblak.
Who would you pick? and who would you remove from these picks? Keeping in mind that it’s okay if our preferences differ.
I’m Italian, you put Meret as 10th and Provedel as honorable mention. You completely forgot Vicario which is better than both IMO and Donnarumma who is currently our national team’s starter (which I disagree with but I still consider him good).
Onana had a terrible start of the season, Sommer maybe a few years ago would have made the list but not now, Pope could maybe be an honorable mention, Spain has has at least 4 or 5 keepers that are way better than De Gea.
Few names in random order you didn’t even mention: Diogo Costa, Gregor Kobel, David Raya, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Unai Simon.
A personal favorite which I think is underrated: Wojciech Szczesny.
Where’s Giroud?
Onana, Pope, sommer ahead of Ter Stagen. Truly clueless
Andre Onana, most clean sheets in UCL last season, was absolutely a wall for Inter, would’ve ranked him even higher had he lived to the expectations at Manchester United.
Nick Pope, top 2 clean sheets in Premier League, 2nd least goals conceded after Ederson, and a main reason why Newcastle finished 4th last season.
Yann Sommer, performed decently for Bayern, then became the wall for Inter after Onana’s departure, and a main reason why Inter is looking absolutely solid at the back now.
Ter Stegen was a crucial factor to why Barcelona won La Liga but couldn’t replicate these performances consistently and against tough opponents, so that’s why I ranked him lower than those, some would argue he might be ahead of Onana which would be also logical.
Ter Stagen had the most clean sheets in Europe.
Yet, eliminated in UEL and Copa del Rey, and hardly the unique significance compared to whoever above him, still giving him credit for La Liga (which he won times before) and that’s why he’s in the list.
Why is Onana on this list? I support liverpool and would have Pickford in the lineup before that clown
Because you only know Premier League and have never seen a game outside of that league.
Educate yourself.
K
He got you
Yes, he is so far disappointing at Manchester United, yet he was much much better at Inter Milan
For 1 season and before that at Ajax he was also poop
Yeah, can’t disagree with that, does that mean we shouldn’t credit his efforts at Inter and how that helped them with winning trophies and almost beating Manchester City?
Guaranteed we might not see him in any list in the future years though.
Alisson has to be number 1 surely.
Courtois is better in almost every way
This year? No chance. I’m not even a Liverpool fan but Alisson literally kept Liverpool in games singlehandedly last season and that’s not an exaggeration. Courtois also tore his acl
ederson’s distribution is top-notch, but his shot-stopping abilities don’t quite cut it for me. i’d lean towards alisson as the top pick, especially considering his performance in crucial moments during liverpool’s UCL campaign.
Yeah, got your point, mentioned that in another comment that if Liverpool did better in 2023, Alisson would definitely be the top of the top.
Sadly I’m not allowed to post more lists as that was somehow against the rules despite allowing me to do it twice before, and that it wasn’t my fault that some people couldn’t tolerate different thoughts.
I’m just glad there are some other people who do not take my choices personally and engage in healthy debates, you included.
Sommer is barely top 20
Any list including Sommer is not it. He is so bad and people still dont see it. Only see his “clutch saves” who only look clutch of his size and need to fly
People listing Onana over De Gea even when inactive hurts my eyes.
Genuinely horrible list
saw your manager list. Was not expecting anything from you. You fulfilled my expectations with this terrible list.
Also since you didn’t keep MATS above because he got out of all europe competitions and only won a LaLiga and had the most clean sheets last season in Europe.
With what metric are you keeping Aliison who went trophyless last season and didn’t even qualify for top 4.
I feel you make these outrageous list just for engagement
You disagree, someone else agrees, that’s life, pal.
Anyways, Alisson saved Liverpool from even worse defeats, same with Mike Maignan since you mentioned him in another comment, both may have won nothing, but they’re one of the big reasons why their teams stayed in the conversation, maybe you think that doesn’t deserve recognition, it’s fine, I think otherwise.
Alex Meret also won the scudetto with Napoli, and hardly anyone gives a damn he’s in the 10th place in my list in spite of that obvious achievement (I wonder why though), what I’m trying to say is winning titles doesn’t automatically mean you’re the best in your position, many factors play here, like if you have a strong defense, or competition wasn’t strong enough, meanwhile Alisson and Mike Maignan had to endure the continuous flaws of their respective defenders and still saved their teams from further humiliation or becoming another Chelsea.
Take Gigi Donnarumma for example, he won Ligue 1, but we all know he lost his mystique long ago as evident against FC Bayern and other tough opponents, but by your take, he should be there because he won the league?
Take it easy, I just like to debate, that’s the main reason behind these lists, if that inconveniences you or you can’t agree to disagree, then simply ignore them.
I just can’t put Ederson as #1. I’m probably wrong. But I feel like he puts his team in way too much danger. He loves waitinf for the last tenth of second to pass the ball.
He waits for the striker to press, and passes the ball at the very last moment. And as a result, the pass is not as good as it could be, and the rest of the team is pressing the defenders who have a tough first touch to make. If it wasn’t City and the defenders weren’t so good technically, it would be a disaster.
I just don’t like that. Puts his team in way too much danger.I’d have Ter Stegen in the top, definitely. Very high too.
I believe this is more Pep’s instructions, which I agree is too risky.
Can’t take away his crucial moments though, but yeah, overall there are many better keepers than him in shot stopping, but not on his ball playing technique.
Would’ve ranked Alisson better if Liverpool did better overall, and Thibaut Courtois maybe would be there if not for the injury.
Respecting your views and choices ✌🏻
Ederson #1? I have to admite that he’s very good, but considering that City dominate at least 90% of other teams, it’s very difficult to say he’s the most reliable goalkeeper in the world. For example, Courtois literally was the best playera in the 2022 UCL final against Liverpool.
MATS being EIGHTH is crazy
Pope above Ter Stegen is a joke
No way Pope is above him. He’s very good, but not near Ter Stegen.
