I remember them being above mid table but after they beat Tottenham theyre now fourth and only 2 points off the top of the league. That means that if they didn’t lose to Nottingham forest or Everton they would be first. Ik they really haven’t had difficult match ups but it’s still very impressive.

Spurs were playing with 2 FBs at CB and a couple of guys who have barely started in the PL. Villa were largely outplayed today.

They are a decent side to be sure, but the aren’t “that good.”

They werent outplayed. Both teams had lots of huge chances, which is the reason Spurs were only 0,5xg higher than Villa. This game was pretty symptomatic for Angeball: lots of attacking intent, but little ability to control the match. You don’t outplay your opponent if you allow them lots of huge chances

Symptomatic? Both starting CBs out. Most creative player, out. Gil and Lo Celso starting their first games in years. Bissouma out. Bentancur early out from a dirty tackle.

But Villa are SO good. Ok 🤷‍♂️

Stop. You can’t compare the injuries. Villa have a few, but Spurs are absolutely decimated. Udogie played, but he was clearly not 100% and nearly came off. You still had a real CBS, including Torres who scored. And 1/2 a goal xG isn’t nothing.

A win is a win. The villa chances go in, which is what matters, and ange should have realised that with his current cb duo, he has to change tactics until romero is back

Yup, a win is a win, but keep it in perspective. A win was a win for us against Liverpool…lol No, Ange isn’t going the change tactics and most of us don’t want him to change. Shit happens in football.

Spurs could’ve been 4 up at HT - Villa are decent but both teams were bang average today.

Emery is the 3rd best manager in the league. Klopp and Pep you can say are better but I think you’ll struggle to make a case for any other manager being 3rd over Emery and he is bringing out the best of the players he has

I mean they were very clearly the second best team today and on another day are down 3-0 going into the half. Emery has made a huge impact but they were very lucky today.

This all started with Grealish leaving as I think they used the money mostly wisely, but Gerrard evidently wasn’t the guy to get the most out of those players. Looking back it’s evident Emery didn’t get a fair shake at Arsenal due to the structure of the club at the time minimising his influence in favour of ‘football executives’ who were incompetent to borderline criminal. Now he’s got the level of control he needed at Villa he’s taken their already good squad to it’s potential and made smart upgrades such as Diaby

Emery’s PL record with Aston Villa so far is 9 loses, 5 draws, and 24 wins, for a total of 77 points in 38 matches. Numbers like that won’t win you the title, but they’ll easily get you in the top 4

Tbh, Unai changed the narrative there. They also have some quality players compatible with the league at the moment
