so, here is my 2 cents… I just built 2 pc’s one 14900k on z690 and another 12700kf on z790(max). what I’ve noticed, the Z790(max) boards all split their PCIE5.0x16 to x8 if you use the CPU attached SSD even with a pcie3.0 SSD this is a major problem unless you are using a x8 graphics card with pcie5.0 SSD. the Z790 standard boards have pcie4.0 SSD to CPU and pcie5.0x16 graphics does not get cut in half but they are expensive. You can get a MSI Z690 ACE for $249! pair that with a 14900k like I did and you have the best system you can get today (even better than a Z790(max) board. and memory OC’s to 6000Mhz no problem.
Yes yesterday i was checking the msi ace z690 and is gourges and very strong mobo iam pretty sure i Will get that one. The only thing i don’t like is the max speed of they ddr5 of 6666 mhz. Also i really like the Asus strix E gaming z690 looks awesome is a hard choice.
For ddr5 z790 7200mhz ram, for ddr4 z690 4000mhz cl16
What will matter more than the Z690 or Z790 chipset is the overall feature-set and design of the board, as the only difference between the two chipsets is one is capable of more connectivity. But just because it is, doesn’t mean all Z790 boards will offer the connectivity the chipset is capable of and will in all likelihood use the name purely for marketing. So when looking up boards, look at the overall feature-set of the board and judge the price-value accordingly. For RAM OC, I again do not think the chipset matters, as a 2-DIMM Z690 APEX will likely edge out all 4-DIMM Z790 boards, so again it comes down to the specific board, what it offers and how much it costs. Beyond that the chipset name is just marketing.
Absolutely agree. I have an asus Rog z690 Maximus extreme which I’ve used with a 12th a 13th and a 14th gen and have had no issues whatsoever. Now with the 14th gen my memory is very stable At 7000 and OC using the intel XTU Ai assistant which only works for 14th gen is giving me 6.2 ghz all p cores and 4.6 ghz e cores with no issues at all again. I only run 64GB of RAM but that’s more than enough for me
Hey could i get some ram recommendations for a Asus Strix Z690-E motherboard. I plan on getting a 14900k cpu. I believe the highest ram speed i can get is 6400MHz can someone recommend the best ram i could get after 64gb thanks!
