There’s a bit of revisionism from rival fans going around over Emerys time at Arsenal.

It’s somehow hard for people to accept that yes he’s a great coach but also he was a terrible fit for our club (even though he joined us at the worst time possible).

His transfers were almost exclusively terrible, 10/12 are already out of the club. But the remaining two are real gems - Saliba and Martinelli and we should be really thankful that he brought them in

Eh, it’ll die down when they start losing.

The weird one is some of our fans using him being good at a different club to ‘prove’ he wasnt that bad for us.

He’s a phenomenal manager when he’s got a team that can be underestimated, where people will play their usual game against them and he can set up to counter that. When he’s expected to win and other teams change their plans specifically to counter him and don’t allow his teams space to …counter… he’s not as good.

He’s been a God at every team he’s been in cahrge of bar the two big clubs he’s been given and it just wasn’t to be with us.

I’ll give him one thing, he seems to have learned from his time here and doesn’t panic so much when his team goes 2 up. Back then he would almost always make a defensive sub, now he is a bit more confident in his team. Glad he`s doing well, the dude was all class and genuinely worked hard, it just didn’t work for him here.

It’s probably because teams operate differently against him at Villa.

At Arsenal he thought he could get away with defending as we had all the posession, at Villa almost everyone attacks him so his defensive solidity is built in from the start and they play for the counter, whih to be fair they’re superb at this season.

      I mean does it matter?

Emery might be amazing but Arteta is still better overall.

      Same thing with Ramsdale tbh.

If you’re happy with your new girlfriend are you gonna look back at the ex you dumped and feel shit because she found someone too?

His terrible handling of the Captaincy/Xhaka issue in at the start of 19/20 was enough for me to never full trust him again, no matter how well he does elsewhere.

There’s a bit of revisionism from rival fans going around over Emerys time at Arsenal.

No joke, but there are certain fan opinions saying things like how even Arteta’s FA Cup winning team was just “an inheritance” and didnt do anything, like as if we were gonna win the FA Cup even with Emery in charge.

I think this type of thinking is real toxic and breeds self-harm.

Rivals will do whatever it takes to discredit Arteta achievements.

Didn’t we concede like 30 shots to Watford and Burnley in back to back games shortly before he got fired?

Would have thought the stretch from April 2019 to when he got sacked would cement that he wasn’t the right manager for us, but some people still don’t see it that way

Thing is, Emery is a very good coach and great when he can play that underdog who still has lots of quality. It’s why Villa is perfect for him, but we were never the right fit. Regardless, he did a decent enough job following Wenger and I’m happy to see him do well.
