Having more wins than Wenger in first 200 games is a great achievement but playing 2 seasons in Europa League helps

To be fair Wenger had the UEFA cup in his first season, which we went out of early and Arteta had an entire season out of Europe entirely.

Wenger also inherited a team that had won the league, a european trophy and a couple of domestic trophies in the previous six seasons while Arteta inherited a team that outside the cups was a mess.

Apart from some defenders and Merson, Wenger inherited none of the players who had won the league 6 years before. And the team was also comfortably midtable every season since the league win

So both Wenger and Arteta inherited teams which outside the cups were a mess

Agreed. Though just to add further context, we have spent a hell of a lot under Arteta. Regardless, the fact that Arteta can be in this ballpark is fantastic.

Equally we spent because we sold badly and had to totally overhaul the team whereas Wenger inherited a title winning defence, a golden boot winner (who didn’t then turn shit) and Dennis Bergkamp.

I mean he also bought in Vieira and Petit and utterly transformed our entire off field fitness and professionalism but then Arteta had to turn around a failing ship and totally rebuild the relationship with the fans.

Wenger is still the GOAT but this is way closer than it seems.

You’re saying like having a season out of Europe entirely is a bad thing, if anything that is another reason to have a better win rate
