My facebook feed is just celeb gossip trash. I am not sure how long it has been like that but 1 in 10 posts are from people. The rest are just blog spam in one form or another.

Big tech companies are greedy. They would sell their grandmothers for a dollar. If they can make $0.99 instead of $1 they’re going to wave their dicks settings and hope everyone just caves buy ultimately they aren’t going to be willing to give up that $0.99.

Only a dollar? That doesn’t sound very greedy.

Not entirely. Your comment seemed to be trying to attribute blame based on nothing more than a measure of greed.

I was simply saying that no one side has a monopoly on greed in this scenario - so you’d need a bit more than that to try and figure out who’s in the wrong.

Big tech absolutely will. Why not? If the feds create really stupid rules and the cheapest alternative for tech companies is to exclude, then of course that is what they will do.

I don’t personally think this is a genuine move to support Canadian media. It’s more akin to how feds treat Canadians to fund Canadian media. They are just trying to push it to non Canadian tech companies.

I don’t know about Canadian news but Google has blocked bard (their AI chatbot competitor to ChatGPT). Not sure if it’s related to this but Canada is one of the few countries worldwide (along with the likes of Iran and China) where bard is not available.
