HELP COMPLETE THIS LIST OF PLAYERS.
The Preserve Championship in Minnesota was one of the few #DGPT events that #NatalieRyan was allowed to compete in this year. “ICONS - Independent Council on Women’s Sports” sponsored this protest, and I’m curious about their financials/support base.
I haven’t seen anyone post a list of ICONS-supporters, so maybe we could get one going here. As a disc golf fan, I think it’s important to know where specific golfers stand on this issue.
The video linked here was led primarily by Cat and Sarah. Other than the timestamped names below, here’s who I’ve spotted: FRONT ROW: Lisa Fajkus, Vanessa Van Dyken, Stacie (Hass) Kiefer OTHERS: Stacie Rawnsley, Nathan Queen?, Gannon Buhr, Garrett Gurthie, Nikko, Ezra Aderholt?, Robert Burridge, Austin Hannum
Previously signed “Declaration” on May 8th: Emily Beach, Deann Carey, Ruby Reyes, Evelina Salonen, Henna Bloomroos, Sarah Gilpin, Valerie Mandujano https://archive.ph/waVrH (Reddit archive)

Out of the loop: what’s going on with female disc golfers?
What I could find out: Natalie Ryan is transsexual and won many female disc golf events. Then she was banned from competing as a woman, went to court and they decided she could compete. Then the events were cancelled.
I also read some comments that said she was not a nice person at all.
The women in OPs video think it’s not fair to compete against someone who went through male puberty.
Maybe I don’t understand disc golf, but isn’t this more of a technique sport? Seems like the ‘male puberty’ type arguments are a red herring here, even if you were to credit them in other contexts.
Absolutely? I’ve played disc golf in the far past and we played with women and men, there was no big offset in ability. You don’t need strength, you need the right disk and the right type of throw
Male puberty is just bigots seeing an opportunity to be bigots, trans issues is a hot topic for that exact reason
Disc golf is also power sport. Drive distance is a big factor.
Which you can achieve with the right type of throw with the right type of disc.
Male puberty is not making the major difference here
Also, it’s not like they don’t make the exact same argument even if the trans woman in question didn’t go through a male puberty and was on blockers and then hormones from their teenage years. All that does is force them to move the goalposts on their anti-trans arguments.
It’s definitely both power and technique.
My partner and I both play regularly and on a lot of holes there is just no chance for her to throw as far as me based on power output.
That being said, I thought it had been proven that there was no real physical advantage for trans women after they have been on HRT for a while, and that most of the outcry is transphobia.
I don’t know the degree to which that’s been proven. I’ve seen some misleading articles and posts whose content mentions one specific aspect where there was no advantage and frame it as there being no advantage across the board.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9331831/ paints a different picture. Muscle mass and blood efficiency were lower in adults with reduced testosterone, but if the individual continued exercising their muscle mass was still higher than cis women, and other aspects like skeletal structure were unaffected by adult testosterone levels.
