The Return of the MicroMatic Mammoth Monday Formation Flight

    • Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
    • Razor: GEM Micromatic Flying Wing (NOS, chrome plated)
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
    • Lather: House of Mammoth Hygge
    • Aftershave: Declaration Grooming Opulence
    • Fragrance: Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
    • Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder

Mammoth Monday with a Flying Wing. I realised yesterday how I missed this little tradition that had its heyday in 2022. Hygge feels right for today, with sub-zero (°C) temperatures and snow falling. I’m adding warmth in vanilla form with Opulence and Tobacco Vanille. I’ve never smelled Parfums De Marly Layton, but I like the dupe in Opulence.

In today’s #Talcening news, I overdid it with the talc and looked a bit clownish. Luckily an easy fix. But it feels smoooooooth!

      Great photo!

I had planned to use Marilyn today, but changed it up when I saw your MMMMFF comments. I’ll be joining the formation I think.

Up the talc learning curve you go!

        Great photo!

Thanks! They will look similar all week😅

I still haven’t tried Marylin even though I have a smush of it. I’ll have to remedy this deplorable state of affairs!

I bought a sample of Marilyn soap and could not get a vibe from it, but I liked the scent. I then bought the EdT and gives me more of that sense of a night out during the '60s. Now I wish I had purchased a tub. I assume that Will will release this again in the spring.

    • Brush: Zenith MOAR BOAR
    • Razor: GEM Clog Pruf
    • Blade: GEM PTFE [1]
    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Bonaparte - Soap
    • Aftershave: House of Mammoth - Uitwaaien
    • Osma: Osma - Osma
    • Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery - G20

I decided to buy Bonaparte on a lark, because /u/StirlingSoap mentioned on Facebook that it is strong and divisive.

Strong, sure. And perhaps divisive, but frankly I think the scent is really nice.

Uitwaaien is an absolute pleasure. I will probably do a posted review of this sometime soon.

    January 8, 2024: Flying Sheep

I haven’t got any Mammoth soap, so I chose the wooliest soap I have: Haslinger sheep milk. I probably should have given my face a day of rest, but what is done, is done.

    Have a good night!

    January 8, 2024 - MMMMFF

    • Brush: Grizzly Bay Shire 26mm V18 Fanchurian
    • Razor: GEM Micromatic Flying Wing
    • Blade: Personna Gem PTFE (3)
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Indigo - Soap
    • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner
    • Aftershave: House of Mammoth - Indigo - Splash
    • Fragrance: Floris of London - No. 89 - Eau de Toilette

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I planned to have a Marilyn Monday shave midday, but there’s always Marilyn Mardi. After seeing u/djundjila’s MMMMFF shave this morning I changed my plans so I could join in some Formation Flying. The blueberry and rum in Indigo did not disappoint. A very interesting fragrance, for sure.

    • Brush: AP Shave Co. - 24mm Synbad Fan
    • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
    • Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (5)
    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - Soap
    • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Incorporeal - Aftershave

    Tub Kill!

Varen is one of my favorites, and I am sad to see it go.

Varen comes in the mutton tallow base, and as such it was discontinued with the rest of them when mutton got too expensive a year or two ago.

Later, the price of mutton went back down, and the mutton soaps returned! Rejoice!

Unfortunately, when I check the Stirling website, Maggard, etc… Varen seems to be sold out everywhere. Has anybody had their ear to the ground about that?

So, this might be my last Varen shave ever. In order to give it the respect that it deserves, I used an unscented aftershave and no frag today.

    SOTD 08.01.2024

    • Prep: warm water
    • Razor: Stando Perun
    • Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    • Brush: TGS Galaxy 26 mm
    • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Unscented soap
    • Post Shave: Thayer’s Aloe Vera toner; Aloe Vera moisturiser

I actually realised that I forgot to post my Saturday shave before the party I attended, but now it’s too late… Anyways! Today I did a 2 pass head shave to get rid of all the stubble on my dome.

The Perun is a really mild razor. I actually prefer if I can shave my head in one pass and be done with it, but today it required two. However, I didn’t want to risk any irritation since I will return to nursing school tomorrow. We were supposed to go back today, but due to a country wide farmer’s strike our whole school stayed at home today.

So, on Friday I finished my last early shift at the new nursing home. So far, working conditions are way better and colleagues are friendly for the most part. I doubt I’ll ever grow as close to them though, but on Saturday I went to a party with 3 of my former colleagues who became friends. It was actually awesome to see them again and we had a fun evening and… early morning I guess. I actually went to bed at 4:00 AM Sunday, despite being the driver and not drinking any alcohol. The girls were all drunk, but well, you only live once. It was a nice evening regardless and a welcome distraction for us all. So far, my life seems to go in a bit of a better direction. Let’s see what the next few days and weeks of the new year will bring…
