    • Brush: Brad Sears Arley 26mm Super Badger

    • Razor: C.V. Heljestrand MK 31 11/16 Celluloid Full Hollow

    • Lather: PannaCrema - Nuàvia Nera - Soap

    • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

    • Aftershave: PannaCrema - Nuàvia Nera - Balm

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Wonderful shave today, and it was a test shave for a new edge on this Heljestrand. I did make a video of this one too, because this razor is moving on to a new owner.

I find these PannaCrema soaps have very refreshing scents, and I enjoy the lightness of the soap base.

    The Blues

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Papa Eld with Declaration Grooming B3 knot
    • Razor: EldrormR Industries - GEM Division: MM24
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann 42
    • Aftershave: Southern Witchcrafts / Shawn Maher Gravefruit 2
    • Fragrance: Chatillon Lux Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli

Congrats to Barrister and Mann for yesterday’s victory. It’s not official yet, but I commissioned u/robodjudge to tally the shaves and it found 50 B&M vs 45 Southern Witchcrafts uses (excluding luxury shaves of multi shavers). It’s an entirely deserved victory, but I was really hoping for an upset this time around, and at times it seemed possible. There were even times when SW was leading!

    The horse race:

BaM SW Other Total Time (GMT)
    0 0 0 0 06:00
    1 0 0 1 08:00

42 and Gravefruit 2 work really well together and I had a great shave with Soft hearts and the MM24. I’ll add a second spritz of YRP before leaving for the office.

A lazy, and good midday shave. I start to see the end of the soap – there’s probably still 2-3 shaves in it. I see that I have a tendency to combine soaps with specific (types of) brush: Schafmilch is a boar brush soap.

    Have a good day!

    Mar 18, 2024 - Coffee & Vetiver

Sidama is a complex, coffee and dark chocolate scent. Dark Man’s coffee note seems a little sweeter somehow. However, it was the vetiver that tied the whole shave together this morning.

    Rating: 4.5/5

    Prep: Splash of Cool Water
Razor: Timeless - Stainless Steel .68 Open Comb
Blade: Gillette - Nacet (Marathon) (542)
Lather: Black Ship Grooming - X Tenth Anniversary
Brush: Declaration Grooming - B7 Viking Ivory (3 uses)
Post Shave: Summer Break Soaps - History 101

    Gear Pic :: Video

    ䷀ General Notes

Will the base from Blackship Grooming work with the Slurry Lather method? Yep, sure enough. Works great.

    ䷀ Razor and Blade Notes

    (Timeless - Stainless Steel .68 - Open Comb ::: Gillette - Nacet - M ‹542 uses›)

As usual for the Nacet: tuggy on pass 1, then fine after. Close shave.

Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 2 out of 5 (Okay)

    ䷀ Soap Notes

(Black Ship Grooming - X Tenth Anniversary)

Them: “Pineapple, bay rum, and cedarwood”

Me: fruity, yes, and I’m glad to say I didn’t pick up much of the bay. light woody to balance it out. Very pleasant, but not complex.

Scent Strength: 4/10, lightly present during shaving.

Lather… This base worked well with the Slurry Lather method.

On the third or fourth pass, I did add a bit more water. and my last pass was able to be worked into that final creamy lather to top it off with some luxury feel.

With all the hydration this method uses, I think it puts this base in a very good light.

    • 16 sec load with a Very Wet brush
    • = 5 passes of lather

    Bowl: No Bowl

    ䷀ Brush Notes

    (Declaration Grooming - B7 Viking Ivory ‹3 uses›)

Comfy and pretty easy to splay.

    During the Shave Feel:
      Cheeks: Just a little tugging
      Neck: Just a little tugging
    After the Shave Closeness:
      Cheeks: Close Shave
Neck: Several hairs are showing some tip length (still a pretty good shave)
