Hello.
I just built a new PC and wanted to try Bazzite. I know that Nvidia is a pain on Linux… but I really wanted a 4090 so I am hoping I can sort of the problem I am having.
Context:
I was not able to get the normal bazzite-nvidia
install to work… it kept freezing before reaching the “installation wizard”. But, I had success with the bazzite-nvidia > Basic Graphics Mode
option. I am not entirely sure what the difference is between “normal” and “Basic Graphics Mode”… but doing so allowed me to proceed to the installation.
Upon completing the installation and restarting, I kept getting stuck on a black “Booting Fedora Linux” screen.
I tried adding nouveau.modeset=0
to the launch options, but it made no difference. Default grub looks like this.
Eventually I tried plugging the HDMI into the Motherboard, and that actually worked. I can boot into Bazzite no problem using the CPU onboard graphics.
Interestingly enough, once I am logged into Bazzite, I can switch the HDMI cable back to the 4090 and it will work. It appears that the Nvidia drivers are installed correctly, as I can see it reported in the Nvidia Systems app.
Question:
To me, it seems like there is just an issue on boot between CPU and GPU. Does anyone know what I can do to get Bazzite to properly boot with Nvidia HDMI? Is there a specific boot option I need? Thanks in advance!
