I’m not sure what he’s campaigning for? “Assault weapons” is a very loosely defined term that seems to cover genuine weapons of war to “hunting rifles that look scary”. Most places already have outright bans, and the ones that don’t do have controls like requiring a background check and waiting period.
Also last I checked Gavin Newsom is the senator for California, a state that has been blue for a very long time, and there are same rather unsavory documentation about its approach to crime. I believe there was a recall election against him a few years back which had a significant amount of support.
About 2/3 of people voted against the attempt to recall Gavin Newsom, and no, he’s the Governor, not Senator.
and 1/3rd voted for, and didn’t outright ignore the vote.
Assault rifles are already banned. Gun purchases already require a background check. Making a mandatory wait period does not require a change to the Constitution.
But perhaps Gov Newsom should spend more time trying to fix all the fucked up problems in California instead of worrying about the rest of the country. If his plan is to run the US like he has California then we are all fucked; if he was ever to get elected to the high office.

If I was a communist with a shrine to Marx I’d support anything and everything Newsom was involved in. After all, his aunt Nancy Pelosi is a saint. I’d also make sure that RFK Jr. was unknown to me. Newsom has successfully advanced California into a perfect blueprint for the remaining 49 states.
