The discussion thread is for casual and off-topic conversation that doesn’t merit its own submission. If you’ve got a good meme, article, or question, please post it outside the DT.

Obviously this is still sort of an experiment, but I figured why not keep trying it? I know the sub is technically open again, but I want to genuinely explore alternatives to Reddit.
Why not try and see if this catches on??
Btw, if you’re a NL mod and want to be added here, reach out to me with proof and we’ll get you sorted.

This is an interesting set up. Would it be better to use the microblog as a DT? It’s formatted a little differently, with the text box at the top of the page. I dunno, I’m new here.

Do y’all think I should be making a new one of these every day? We don’t get much traffic yet, so it doesn’t seem entirely necessary.

Also, do y’all have any ideas of what you’d like to see in our little magazine going forward?

Agree with @FuckFashMods that a weekly discussion thread would be plenty until this place grows up.

I think we just need to get content and discussion going here. At the moment about three of us are 90% of the posts and comments - if we can get that up to (say) 8-10 as a first milestone then this place will feel a lot more active. I’ve noticed the number of subscribers gradually ticking up (showing 56 at the moment, but I think the count may only display subscribers from the same instance?) - we just need regular content and discussion to convert more of those subscribers to commenters!

I guess we can think also about what distinguishes this place from the content you’d get on general politics subs. I noticed the Vox article on car ownership in the US generated more upvotes than other stuff I’ve put here (though the margins are hardly big) - maybe we think about what topics dear to neoliberals are poorly-served by other news/politics subs.

Could you promote this magazine on the Mastodon instance? I think Mastodon users can subscribe to a kbin magazine (from what I’ve seen elsewhere on kbin) so might be we can draw in some friends from there too.

I’ve mentioned this magazine on the mastodon a few times in the past but I’ll try shilling it again, especially now that there are 50+ members.

I definitely appreciate you and the other active members that continue to bring content!
I should be doing more of that myself, honestly. I’ll try to do better going forward.

Maybe some I’ll also put together a simple anonymous poll to get general demographic info we can play off of too.

Good morning liberals and hope you’re having a good weekend.

Also, has anyone seen our fearless mod @Crawfish? Their last comment was three weeks ago saying that kbin was everything they needed in a Reddit alternative…

      Howdy!

Good to see our stalwart content provider is here in force.
I apologize I wasn’t logging in as much recently, but I was still browsing. I’m also a very active lurker on the mastodon server. Feel free to join that instance too.

To be perfectly honest I didn’t realize people were still using this! There didn’t seem to be much interest. But I’m glad you are here pal.

        The messiah!

How are you finding the Mastodon instance? I came to kbin looking for a discussion board-type Reddit replacement - never really warmed to Twitter in the first place.

Yeah I get that. I stopped using Twitter about 10 years ago. But there seems to be a solid group of around 15-20 regular posters making it feel like a never-ending chronological DailyThread. I still don’t go on Reddit really so it’s helping me get that DT fix

Good question, and I hope its not too late lol

I am not entirely sure except keep trying. Boosting comments and posts should help with visibility, at least.

I am excited to see a reddit alternative emerge and would love to see something like r/Neoliberal in the fediverse, too.

I remember when I joined r/Neoliberal on reddit it was a relatively small community (around 16,000 I want to say?) and no where near as big as it is now. Still though, that was much bigger than what we are working with here.

Thanks - we’ll keep plugging away! I joined r/neoliberal when it was still pretty small too and it became one of my go-to favourite subs.

I’m really hopeful we get to that point here too. The number of subscribers is still slowly growing - the more we post/upvote/boost/comment, the more subscribers will come in, the more content they’ll generate themselves, etc. It’ll take time but I’m hopeful.

    @Crawfish are you still there?

It’s been about a month since this party started, and while things are looking a little slow I think it’d be great if we could build a community here that advocated for free trade, open borders and taco trucks on every corner lol.

@Crawfish - as you’re not here much, can I suggest you add a few of us who are active as co-mods? I worry otherwise that with no active mod on the magazine then its growth could end up being limited - especially important now that it’s finally coming to life and we’ve got multiple regular posters here.

I would be happy to be a mod here.
