I live really near a downtown area and it’s feasible to bike there. Problem is, there are no bike lanes. While I can 100% just ride on the road, a bike line would help a lot and most likely encourage others to ride on the road too.
How would I go about getting a bike lane? Even just a shitty painted lane.

Try reaching out to your locally elected representative?
Works best if you are part of some sort of organised advocacy group. So either try to join one or try founding one if there isn’t a local one already. Fair warning though: It’s a lot of work.
