But Messi will be in the Argentina XI until he retires no matter where he plays so for him I imagine the pressure to do that is lower.

To stay fit ahead of international commitments like Beckham did in Milan. It’s a reasonable hypothesis. But Messi will be in the Argentina XI until he retires no matter where he plays so for him I imagine the pressure to do that is lower.
