Baldur’s Gate 3 is looking to be one of the best games of 2023 in a year already full of some of the best games of the generation. And their stance on microtransactions is great.

“No, there are no in-game purchases in our game. We believe in providing a complete and immersive gaming experience without the need for additional purchases. Enjoy the game to its fullest without any additional costs or microtransactions.”

For the lazy. Although with noting they have given extra camping supplies for people who preordered.

I have more camping supplies than I know what to do with. I’m on tactician, but I’m trying to play like I would in tabletop and stretch out long rests if I can. It forces me to actually manage resources I’m spending in a fight (and after). In tabletop the DM would roll for an encounter or something if you just decided to camp in a hag’s lair, for example. I wish they’d do something with it in BG3, but it’d be tough to do contextually.

“Enjoy the game to its fullest without any additional costs” - I know Larian are one of the good guys in all this but the deluxe DLC does come with in-game stuff that is otherwise unobtainable, so their statement isn’t 100% accurate

It’s pretty tame and they enabled the deluxe pack to preorders which was cool. Nothing in the list is Earth shattering.

      Divinity Bard Song Pack.

      PC or PS5 Dice Skin.

      Paintings from Rivellon collection.

Adventurer’s Pouch collection (supplies and potions to get you started)

Digital soundtrack for Baldur’s Gate 3 from composer Borislav Slavov.

      Digital Artbook.

I don’t disagree it’s anything earth shattering but it does make their statement open to being disputed… I guess my other concern would be if it’s a slippery slope but there’s no evidence of that with Larian (so far).

I hope Larian Studios gets all the fame and gamer love they deserve. NFTs and micro transactions suck for games.

I hope people are smart enough to reward this company for this and push back on companies that do all the in game micro transactions, but I am sure they won’t.
