  • If I were some emotionless robot that treated all calls equally and only cared about accuracy %, that might be meaningful to me. But I’m not. And I know when I watch games where there is no VAR I enjoy things a lot more knowing that whatever I see happen, outside of maybe a sec or so delay for a lineman to raise his flag, is what is going to happen. No worrying about thinking that that ball may have deflected off of a hand and wondering if VAR is going to go back and review that or anything like that.

And on an emotional level the bad calls completely outweigh the good ones. Because in the past the vast majority of bad calls could be excused by it being a fast sport and things are going to get missed in real time. Now, the bad calls are mostly inexcusable and inexplicable.

Just like the ManU game yesterday. I’m about as far from a fan of that team as you can get. But I’m still beside myself on the handball calls. I know the rules. I know the wording. Those were not correct calls. It’s completely inexcusable that VAR was used not only to confirm them but overturn the correct live decisions. There are few calls I can even think of before VAR that are as bad as those. And this has been happening often over the last few VAR years, that’s just one that’s fresh in my mind. So don’t give me this I only care about it when it’s against my team BS. I care more about the game of football than any club loyalty.
