Boy those Scots sure a contentious bunch.
Kevin Smith has even come out saying the movie didn’t age well, but that some of the concepts the movie was discussing didn’t have a vocabulary for them. It probably also wasn’t ideal for a heteronormative white guy to be the writer-director.
But the movie got made and it tried to have a good faith argument of what was being discussed and trying to have that conversation at that time was probably better for the LGBT+ community than not.
I remember there was one recently written Chinese political opinion piece that openly stated that China’s government was not democratic. That claim is consistent with China’s self view, but you see a lot of tankies get tripped up on that claim.
Unofficially : US doesn’t really want that because that would significantly reduce their diplomatic influence
The US has been pushing a lot of it behind the scenes for several Presidents. As the world’s economy becomes more equal, the US can’t afford being the only country providing the bulk of defense. There have been some minor disagreements on coordination, but I feel like these disagreements have been inflated.
The only valuable US territory for EU nations to host troops would be Alaska and the Pacific territories, and Alaska would be the only decent location for European defense. Any other locations would only be useful for power projection, in which the EU seems rather disinterested in.
That said, the US hosts a lot of training centers for EU troops, including hosting a ton of pilot training schools. So there are a lot of EU troops in the US, they are just on American bases.
Is Kevin Smith going to protest the movie this time as well?
I worded the sentence such that it was only discussing which countries were being a belligerent in the Russian Invasion of Ukraine. I didn’t want to imply that South Korea would help invade Ukraine.
Yeah. You have North Korea, which has been contributing munitions and now troops to fighting in Ukraine compared to South Korea which hasn’t. So I wouldn’t be surprised if North Korea is concerned that South Korea could launch a surprise attack while North Korea’s defenses are weakened. Not that South Korea would attack, just that North Korea is worried about it.
The idea of a Federation collapse went back to Gene Roddenberry, who wrote the basics of a story of a Federation starship that got pushed forward through time to a post-Federation future with the goal of rebuilding the Federation.
The first iteration of that idea was Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda. Kevin Sorbo ruined that series.
They did better with the idea the second time around.
Yeah. I feel like Lemmy doesn’t have the tools needed to moderate a larger community outside of defederation.
Just wait around in a red baseball cap and soon you’ll be rollin’.
Was it really simple?
Posts like this make me sick.
Goddamn doctors shoving finite element models down our throats like every little problem requires a 3D mesh and complicated boundary conditions.
Not all our problems are that complicated.
So why is the ideology so dangerous that it is banned?
But why ban Hilary Clinton’s book? What sort of crazed ideology would be there that could be a threat to the current government?
Within the Roman Empire, Christianity ended up succeeding as the apocalypse cult within the empire, with Rome eventually foresaking the old gods for Jesus.
As Roman retreated, Rome’s church survived and became a unifying force in Europe. While there were crusades, there were also cases of willing conversion in order for border nations to gain access to the European market and diplomacy.
Moderation is a volunteer activity that requires dealing with the public. I’m willing to give them wide leeway on how they want to moderate their own communities.
The human population around the fall of the Roman Empire was about 200,000,000. If we are talking about complete collapse of civilization, I expect at least 90% of humanity will die. Of the remainder, most will go into subsistence farming and/or armies to raid nearby areas. Given the wealth of manufactured goods currently out there, I expect that most industry would be scavenger focused, causing a loss of technology.
I don’t really want to live in that world.
You’re also hitting issues with asset creation. You need a larger team to create assets for AAA games than an indie game.
