I understand where your coming from but you’re argument seems very narrow, at least when it comes to the PL. Back in the 90’s Tottenham usually finished 10th or lower and at the start of the century we had the Sky 4, 4 clubs that always finished in the top 4 and where treated like the only 4 that mattered. While it’s taken many years of careful management Tottenham are now part of that big six, and they’ve sold many of their best players over the years and still continued to improve. So it’s absolutely possible for teams to grow over time. The biggest problem are the state backed clubs who come in and give the clubs unlimited funds to compete, which of course is completely unfair. While the authorities have moved far too slowly and have damaged the game over the last 20 years there have been some improvements and supposedly now there is protection in place.

If they’re getting smacked by Bournemouth at home I can’t see them staying up at all. Everton really have nothing to worry about

Yeah it could but the best teams will be at the top, the worst teams at the bottom etc.

That’s why I don’t put to much stock in winning, or not winning, a cup. The league is different, over a season the best teams win

Have they even announced the criteria? UEFA get something like 12 spots and 4 for the last for CL winners. I don’t know about the criteria for the other 8 but presumably if someone wins the CL twice then they have an extra spot for the secondary criteria.

It’s too early to really tell really because some countries have 8 teams and early on the points get spread a lot more thinly that by the end of the group stages.

England have got off to a woeful start, dropping 16pts already. It’d be kind of hilarious if Man Utd finished fifth and missed out on the CL because of their awful CL performance although their league performance isn’t much better.

Spain have already had one club knocked out but having 5 CL teams has negated that especially since Barca and Real Madrid have done so well

Perhaps more surprising is the performance of Brighton given that they’re doing fairly well in the PL.
