  • Oh I absolutely see how it happened. It’s rooted in that love of “Technically correct.” I can absolutely see one of them saying “All I did was have a picture of a scrabble tile with the letter G on it. Is having a single scrabble tile illegal? You can’t simply keep us from associating with each other, the first amendment protects the right to peaceably assemble!” All the while they know very obviously what they did, it’s just that they thought they could technically get away with it. They figured that if no one of them openly used the whole word, they couldn’t possibly face any consequences.

  • It’s not just about what they can use the video for. This also lets them screen for a lot of protected classes without actually asking about them. Your name and resume don’t convey your skin color, your accent doesn’t come out in your work history, nobody can make guesses about your sexuality based on your work email address, but these all become much more easy to discriminate against with a video. All under the pretext of “We didn’t like their answer to the question.”

And you don’t even get the context of an interview to defend yourself.

  • Yeah? That’s… how LLMs work. It doesn’t KNOW anything, it’s a glorified auto-fill. It knows what words look good after what’s already there, it doesn’t care whether anything it’s saying is correct, it doesn’t KNOW if it’s correct. It doesn’t know what correct even is. It isn’t made to lie or tell the truth, those concepts are completely unknown to it’s function.

LLMs like ChatGPT are explicitly and only good at composing replies that look good. They are Convincing. That’s it. It will confidently and convincingly make shit up.

  • He says he’s about free speech because he agreed with the kinds of speech that get excluded from civil discussion. He considered people getting shunned for racist opinions to be censorship, while he considers terminating the accounts of anyone who disagrees with him to be his prerogative and perfectly fair.

Elon Musk has never actually stood for “Free Speech,” only for the speech he likes. He SAYS he likes free speech purely because it has better optics for him and worse optics for his opposition than “Let me say racist things.”
