Yep. My wife and I are in our thirties and have good whole life insurance policies that will supplement our retirement accounts nicely in our old age. I’ve been paying into mine for almost two decades (maybe longer, my parents started it for me and locked in good rates when I was young), my wife’s is newer. We also both have matching retirement accounts and are making sure we hit our matching totals each paycheck to draw as much from our employers as we can.

It’s not ideal, but with good planning (and stable income) you can still do well. Now, stable income is the important part. I’m a software developer, my wife works for a non-profit, so my income is generally a bit more stable than hers.

I recommend finding a financial advisor. Our life insurance guy is great and because he gets commission on the life insurance plans he doesn’t charge us for advisory services (and also doesn’t try to sell us on other stuff, he actually recommended we NOT move our old 401ks from other jobs over to him because we’d end up paying him more than we’d make, he recommended we roll them into our current employer plans).

Be careful giving away personal information on Lemmy. It’s wildly difficult to ensure stuff is deleted or removed in the Fediverse across multiple servers.

Or at least uphold existing laws. Churches are 501©(3) non-profits. By definition a 501©(3) is an organization that doesn’t promote or oppose any political candidate. They can say whatever they want about ballot measures, but not candidates.

They seriously streamlined the item stats, removing lots of the super specific affixes that made finding gear that worked for you a huge pain in the ass. They’ve also added ways to control some of those affixes through Masterworking, which lets you roll for one or two of the affixes from specific categories.

They’ve also changed how paragon works. Now max level is 60, and relatively easily reached, and then you begin earning paragon levels that are now shared across your characters on the realm (eternal, seasonal, hardcore). This way you can get your full build in terms of skills pretty quickly, and then become more powerful through the paragon board.

With I think the fourth season they added The Pit, tiered timed dungeons like in D3. With the fifth they added “Infernal Hordes,” a vaguely roguelite dungeon where you adjust the enemy mechanics as you go through waves until the boss fight, trying to earn currency to open chests at the end.

The expansion added another dungeon type called Kurast Undercity, which starts with a certain amount of time and you gotta kill stuff to get more time. These have customizable rewards based on how you start them.

They also added a thing, Dark Citadel I think it’s called, that requires multiple players and boss fights have mechanics that require you to work together. It’s fun, but I prefer to play single player.

Helltides are always active somewhere now, and in all difficulty levels. Farming them is pretty great, and a fast way to level up.

Getting materials to summon the endgame bosses has also been streamlined, so they’re easier to farm.

Also the new class, Spiritborn, is stupid OP right now, which is always fun.

Oh! And you no longer see mobs levels, to help the people who don’t like that enemies level with you and say it ruins the RPG part. Now enemies are just enemies. They’re always going to pose a similar challenge except they generally get easier to kill as you level up because of your gear and build.

I’m sure I’m missing stuff, but that’s some of the improvements they’ve made.

Man, I really like Diablo 4.

It had lots of issues at launch, but successive seasons have really streamlined it. And with the new expansion they fixed more of the problems. I think it’s a pretty good game.

Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And admittedly a large part of why I like it is that it’s an excellent podcast/audiobook companion. But I’ve probably spent more hours this year on D4 than other games combined.

Most of the people who will vote for Donald Trump don’t know the things he says. They don’t attend his rallies, they don’t watch or read news that will report on what he says. They read the Wall Street Journal opinion pages that talk about how terrible and stupid Kamala Harris is, rather than how stupid and terrible Donald Trump is.

When I talk to my family about things he has said they are shocked, and don’t really believe me. Or they shrug and say things like, “He’s just speaking tongue-in-cheek” or something like that. They don’t have any sense of the candidate because they don’t listen to him. They don’t like him, but they don’t fear him. They think he’s a bullshitter who will enable their side to do what they think is good, not realizing all the horrible racist and xenophobic baggage that comes along.

My mom said yesterday, “Vance will keep him in line.” I laughed and said the only reason Vance—a man who once called Trump “America’s Hitler”—has the job is that he (and the other finalists for the VP pick) agreed they would have done what Pence did not, and prevented the vote from being certified in 2020. She’s a smart (if uninformed) woman, and was very thoughtful after I said that. Seemed to agree.

They just don’t know. Our bubbles are constructed to make us never have to hear what we don’t want to hear. And that goes for all of us, we all need to be careful about avoiding confirmation bias.
