  • I just can’t see why people rate Messi so far clear as the best player of all time. Especially when his career post 2015 is just not that good. There are so many gaping holes but people just seem content that he’s basically been a flat track bully for 8 years with 0 CL success.

Messi 2009-12 and 2015 was unbelievable and arguably the best player of all time. Messi from 2016 to 2022 was just nothing compared to the greats and consistently failed in big games, despite having a much better attacking cast than Ronaldo, Ronaldo dominated football for 3 years like nothing we’ve ever seen but people pretend that it didn’t happen.

Messi might be the best passer, dribbler, playmaker, goal scorer, free kick taker and all those things, just so long as it’s not world class opposition and it’s not a big game. So how does that end with him being this unanimous goat? In 2018 he went out of the CL to Roma, Roma then played Liverpool and were 4-0 down in the first half.

2019 was the perfect example, a brilliant first leg and then he needs one goal to basically win the Champions League and he turns up with nothing against Liverpool. He still won the Balon Dor? Ahead of VVD, who was on the pitch in the biggest game of the season and kept a clean sheet against Messi, then did it again in the final while Messi watched on TV.

A couple of years ago he won’t the Balon Dor for a glorified friendly against Brazil where he didn’t even do anything?

This year he won despite being the 3rd best player in the world (at best) and not even close to the treble winning goal machine who didn’t move to play in America after struggling in France all year.

Messi vs Bayern in 2015 might be the best player ever, nothing after that ever even came close but people pretend he had this insane longevity as the best player in the world. He was closer to the 3rd best player in the world than he was to Ronaldo during 2016-19.

  • Gerrard is best. Most well rounded to ever play in the league and there’s no other player that could have achieved what he did in the same situation.

It’s a shame we didn’t get to see him in a better run football club/ better team (we kind of got a look with Torres, Alonso and Mascherano for 2 years). No player will ever win the CL with a team of that quality again.

After that it’s Lampard, De Bruyne, Vieira, Keane and Scholes.

Scholes is always a tough one to judge because he never faced any adversity and when he did, with England, he just gave up. So it’s hard to imagine him playing in a worse team or really judge his impact.

Guys like Fabregas, Alonso, Silva, Kante and Yaya as the next group down.

Yaya Toure will definitely go down as the most overrated. Yaya was basically a less well rounded Lampard and he only did it for 1 season. His struggles in the CL highlighted all the shortcomings he had as a midfielder (as well as in City’s horrific 442 system). It would have been great to see Yaya in his proper position as a KDB/ Lampard type in a 433 with two supporting midfielders (like Fernandinho and Silva) for a few years to see if he could consistently repeat the 13/14 figures. Anyone that says Yaya Toure is “well rounded” or compares him to Vieira has never watched him play.

  • The argument against Ole was the lack of tactics, he was an outstanding man manager but it was hero ball where you just hope Rashford or Bruno win the game.

Since sacking him they’ve had Ragnick who was arguably the worst manager I’ve ever seen. He had no tactics and no man management skills.

Now it’s ETH who should be a tactician but appears to be an absolute moron and picks players like Lindelof and Antony and has ended up with hero ball but centered around McTominay.

We’re all aware Man United have an utterly abysmal squad and that Bruno Fernandes and Rashford pretty much destroy 95% of footballing systems but Jesus Christ, I’d expect more in the way of tactics/ gameplan from someone like ETH.

Still not sure how United aren’t playing the Poch Spurs/ Conte Chelsea 3-4-3 which is the simplest way to get the best out of attackers.
