Football is a team game and one player being “lazy” wouldn’t cost a squad as talented as that Madrid team trophies. He was an integral part of one of the few la liga winning teams Madrid has had since 2010, and went on to win a world cup and 4 fa cups. He was no more lazy than Isco, James or even Zizou himself.
At various times both cities have thrived though Liverpool’s decline from one of the world’s foremost ports and probably England’s second most important City was directly linked to Manchester’s development. There was a historic rivalry in regards to employment and industry between the cities as well as your typical neighbours rivalry. In more recent years it’s a popular trope (perpetuated by the media both news and pop culture) that scousers are unemployed (linked to the heavy unemployment numbers in the 80s, which ironically Manchester also dealt with), thieves and overly reliant on benefits. Scousers are very proud people and moreso than most cities feel independent from England (in part due to the treatment of the city under Thatchers government, which actively avoided supporting the city) so its an easy sticking point to make light of those struggles.
All in all though Manchester has a higher child poverty rate and a slightly lower (though still top 10 in the UK) unemployment rate than Liverpool but they aren’t typically known for being poor thus don’t get abuse for it. And despite the fact that we should be showing solidarity in our struggles it’s more important in football to windup your rivals regardless of subject matter.
