  • To quote a friend,

"Jabari Brisport. He ran as a Green Party candidate in 2017 with the backing of New York City Democratic Socialists of America. He lost 70-30 when he did that (that was a “respectable performance” for a Green Party candidate) and the Greens reaped exactly nothing from him running besides a “moral victory” that they haven’t improved on or built off of since.

When Jabari again as a Democrat in 2020, he actually won. He’s a big reason we got the Build Public Renewables Act passed–and a reason why bills such as the Clean Futures Act and the All-Electric Building Act get introduced and debated at all (because he helps introduce them and fight for them on behalf of the chapter). Thanks to him, there are now material, working class victories that socialists can point to for why people should elect us over moderate Democrats who don’t care about any of this. If he just kept running as a Green, we probably wouldn’t have been able to do any of that. running as a Green was a quixotic strategy that accomplished nothing for the working class, and he’d be the first to admit that."

It’s wild, but running as a democratic candidate makes it so that we are able to accomplish more. So to throw that away to “show the Dems what they deserve” is completely contradictory to what we need to be doing to actually accomplish meaningful changes in our government.

  • When the third party candidate admits that their campaign is solely to siphon away votes from Democrats? With the Green Party being primarily funded by Republican donors, like Home Depot, and Trump saying the quiet part out loud,

"Trump, has embraced Kennedy as an ally, has previously spoken fondly of both Stein and West.

“Cornel West, he’s one of my favorite candidates,” Trump said during a campaign rally in Philadelphia in June. “I like her also, Jill Stein, I like her very much. You know why? She takes 100% from them. He takes 100%.”

What is the purpose of the Green Party taking away swing states from Democrats? All that leads to is Trump in office again. So what is the purpose? So that Trump can continue the genocide instead of the Democrats?

  • Can’t vote Democrat because support of Israel. That means you also can’t support Republicans, because they support the full extent of the genocide even more with Trump telling Israel to finish the job. And that means you can’t support (most) 3rd party candidates, because the Green Party is primarily funded by Republican donors, and the candidates themselves have investments that go against everything the Green Party is supposed to stand for.

Where does that leave us? You say it’s hemming and hawing with euphemisms. Right now, all candidates lead down the same foreign affairs path. Not all candidates lead down the same road on policies regarding education, corporate regulations, federal health regulations. All things that were decimated under Trump’s presidency. Not to mention, the sheer amount of hate crime that conservatives feel more comfortable doing with Republican presidents in office, leading to people of color and queer politicians stepping down from fear of their livelihood.

But I guess Trump saying he wants to deport protestors and moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, on top of everything else his administration did to the U.S. is completely reasonable.

  • And from the corporate side of things, it’s not very business savvy to miss out on an entire generation or two of gamers buying games.

If you and I are parents and our Steam library has 1,000+ games, our child likely wouldn’t buy those games. But if they need to create a steam account for themselves, now those games are back on the table, securing future revenue for Valve.

There’s workarounds sure, like family sharing or just ignoring the ToS and sharing passwords. I think the real tell will be for our grand/great grandchildren, for once we are 100 or 120 then Valve will probably start wondering… Is averyminya really still alive and kicking, or did he share his library?

  • Sound is just the vibrations of the air, so as music fades, the air calms. Echoes, reverberance, they are just a result of sound “dampening”, and as each sound wave hits a surface that it reflects from the sound waves are also dampened.

So is the question where does music go? Or is it really, “where does silence come from?”
