Nice! It’s a nice change of pace to see runs with lower-tier items. I chose to go with the gladiator since I knew the combos would supplement the low offense, and the extra shielding would do the same for armor. Trying with a freerunner is an intersting idea, though.
Thanks!
Upgrade scrolls: actually I haven’t upgraded my weapon at all (I found the sword +1 somewhere in the jail). I’m hoping to find a +2 or +3 tier-3 weapon. I also have an enchantment stone, waiting for the right weapon. Also, I’ve only spent two SoU on the armor (found at +2, another +2 from the troll).
Interesting idea to use a freerunner. That’s a class that I’ve never tried, though, and it seems difficult to use well (like the duellist monk).
Regarding rings and wands, I don’t put any restrictions on them, since (as you said) they don’t have a tier, so they’re fair game.
Nice! For me, 17 is by far the most I’ve ever finished with.
To add to other comments:
I’ve tried playing with a staff of warding once or twice, but I don’t think I’ve managed to win yet. It’s a fun wand but it requires planning and careful management of charges. One thing I enjoyed doing was placing a couple of sentries in a spot that mob patrols would frequent. No more random mobs to worry about!
That’s astonishing! /me bows down with respect
Will the effect of the ring apply to the “shared upgrades” talent? I was under the impression that it doesn’t, since the weapon level is not actually increased.
I’ve obtained the amulet with both the tomahawk and the boomerang. Both are awesome. The boomerang comes back, allowing easy repeated use of the sniper skills. The tomahawk, though, can finish off an enemy due to bleeding. Given the choice, though, I’d probably go with a boomerang.
Oh, that’s a good idea! I used to just leave a pile of items somewhere on the level and then I have to return for them. Dropping them down a chasm is much more convenient.
A way to deal with them is to have them follow you to a door. Once you go through the door and they enter it, you’re guaranteed to hit. They usually die on the first hit. Just make sure you know what’s behind the door :-)
Amazing! It sounds like a quite difficult challenge.
I hate them DM-201s… If I have good melee damage, I like to use a stone of blink to get next to them, then just whack them. They’re tough, though, so having a potion of healing handy is a good idea.
I’d put the gnoll shamans and the dwarf warlock in a new tier at the bottom. I hate those guys.
There are some comments and calculations here: https://antifandom.com/pixeldungeon/wiki/Shattered_Pixel_Dungeon/Enchantments_%26_Glyphs#Stone
I’m not sure how accurate they are, though; I’ve found that some of the numbers in that wiki are not accurate (at least for SPD v4.2).
Congrats on the amazing achievement! I’ve been trying to ascend with a mage (also a warlock) and two challenges (hostile champions + swarm intelligence). My best effort so far ended earlier today (while ascending) on level 11, by a bunch of mobs that seemed to be indestructible, so I know how difficult it is.
That makes sense. Regarding the armor, it was a gamble between the chain and the scale; the scale would help me a lot with Tengu but, as you say, maybe not be so useful in the demon halls. Having said that, I’ve finished runs with scale at +7 before (but without challenges).
I’m rethinking attempting the demon halls with a prismatic light staff since, as you suggest, it does not do a ton of damage. What I don’t like about lightning is that it can only be used at range, and the succubs and reapers like to get close very quickly.
Thanks, these are good ideas!
Thanks for the ideas!
Unfortunately, that is a ring of tenacity, not a RoW. By this point, I have completed the wand quest; I was offered a wand of corruption or prismatic light, which is what I went with. And, this dungeon has so few seeds that I don’t have enough crystals to get a trinket! I’ve used all the crystals to cook meat (dungeon is pretty low on food as well), and to upgrade the wand of warding to +1.
Thanks – I try to do the same, but I’m finding it hard to survive long enough to reach the blacksmith without upgrades, especially if the loot is not very good. I guess I need to improve my strategy, as well.
I’ve been trying with two challenges (badder bosses + swarm intelligence) and I’ve been unable to finish. Twice I’ve died in level 23…
I think it’s there just to give you one more option. Besides, it looks pretty cool B-)
When playing with a duellist-champion, though, the runic blade has a very attractive ability: it increases the power of its enchantment by a ton. Once I got a projecting runic blade, and I could hit enemies all the way across large rooms. Very entertaining!
