Thank you for bringing it back online, I was worried it might be down for a while! Welcome back :)
Nice to meet everyone by the way, I’m new to SDF, just getting to grips with stuff.

Actually, the history of why women divisions arose in sports is far more nuanced than you seem to believe. The main reasons for doing so were primarily rooted in sexism. Historical records show that women were able to compete with, and win against, men in sporting events during the early middle ages.
Anyways, I see there’s no reasoning with you, so I hope you have a pleasant evening
There’s plenty of speculation that YouTube has never turned a profit. We have no way to know for sure, though.
TikTok is quite different since it’s shorts only. I can totally see that being a viable model, because you can more comfortably cram ads between pieces of content. That’s why YouTube is pushing shorts so heavily.
Nebula is propped up by private investment. I had a quick look and found SEC filings which indicate they have raised over $9 million dollars in private investment in the past 3 years.
Patreon has almost no video hosting compared to how much revenue they have.
I understand how you feel, and you’re not totally wrong - society is changing and shifting power away from men towards historically marginalised groups.
The hopelessness and pain that men is feeling is coming from capitalism, though. It’s corporations stealing your future.
The thing is that men held almost all of the power historically, and a small shift away from men doesn’t mean that women have extreme power now. Don’t let yourself be scammed by the rich and wealthy into fighting their battles for them.
You need to recognise your true enemy.
I mean any free video streaming platform, including YouTube.
The same is true of every free video streaming service. They are not viable stand-alone businesses. They can only ever operate at a loss. Therefore their main use is as a propagandists tool, to control and shape narratives.
I wouldn’t say they did a bad job. They achieved their goals.
Anthropology tends to support the fact that women and men pretty much all had equal share of pretty much every task in the palaeolithic and neolithic eras.
You shouldn’t just reject scientific advances because it goes against what you learned at school. What you learned was wrong. Science adapts based on new evidence. You can too.
Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction. I was able to dig a bit and I think I found it - it looks like they were being a bit of a pedantic asshole about some spelling/grammar thing, the moderator deleted their comment because… yes, it’s a pedantic spelling/grammar nitpick. Then that user threw a massive tantrum and started yelling mod abuse.
Honestly, it’s a real shame that Liam lost faith in Lemmy over something stupid like this. Yeah, there are downsides of a public mod log - really hateful vile shit will just persist in there forever when realistically it should be just wiped out entirely. I think overall it has more benefits than drawbacks, but I certainly wouldn’t say that being opposed to a public mod log is some sort of smoking gun evidence that he abused his mod powers.
So yeah, this one guy behaving like a self-centred jerk actively contributed towards pushing a well-known and prolific linux gaming journalist off the platform. Great stuff, love to see it.

Javascript doesn’t have strongly-typed variables
I’m interested to hear more. I’ve followed Liam’s work for almost a decade at this point and I haven’t ever seen or heard of him acting unprofessionally, but I’m quite new to Lemmy.
What abuse of their moderator powers? Is there a link to see the mod log somewhere? Sorry, I know I’m being a bit needy, but I’m not really sure what I’m doing.
but what if number
isn’t an integer, or even a number at all? This code, and the improved code shared by the other user, could cause major problems under those conditions. Really, what you would want, is to validate that number
is actually an integer before performing the modulo, and if it isn’t, you want to throw an exception, because something has gone wrong.
That’s exactly what that NPM module does. And this is why it’s not a bad thing to use packages/modules for even very simple tasks, because they help to prevent us from making silly mistakes.
That’s how every progressive movement starts, until activists make them reality. If it’s a good idea, it’s a good idea - and if that’s not the way that things are done, the question stops being “is this a good idea”, and starts being “how can we implement this good idea”.
Personally, I don’t really feel that scientology is particularly worse than other religions. So you could just say that Trump supporters are more religious than political, really. Though, I don’t think that’s unique to Trump supporters, really - modern politics really is a lot more like a sort of religious thing rather than about the actual policy for a lot of people.
Yeah, absolutely they should be forced to opening the platform more, worldwide.
Yeah, lemmy.world has way too many communities and users for the good of Lemmy’s health, really.
