You should. You’d like it.
My gender is my concern, but you may use any pronoun to refer to me
You should. You’d like it.
I think there’s an “R” in it.
You used the word pride several times. We should be teaching shame. What we did was shameful, but necessary. Yes, all those examples you give are things I consider glorification. We could show respect and gratitude without glorification. And especially without specifically targeting children with these ideas and not allowing for important counterpoints. That’s propaganda. It sounds as though you are saying, “There’s glorification, but for reasons I agree with, so it’s okay.”
That’s not what I said. It’s right there on the screen. Neither is it what the article says. I won’t engage with such rhetorical devices that border on sophistry.
If you have services available other than the police, it is in your interest to prefer those. Societaly, it is in our interest to offload non-violent services from the police onto social workers and other non-violent labour.
I agree with everything you just said (with some assumptions). What you did not say that was necessary for your comment to be relevant, and isn’t true is: “Glorification of war never happens at Remembrance Day ceremonies in Canada.” It absolutely does.
There are at least three viable commercial microblogging sites right now. So you already have all these problems, without even considering the Fediverse. The Fediverse is the SOLUTION to these problems, not the cause.
Hint: https://mastodon.social/
You have to pick a microblogging service. What’s the difference? Truth Social is just a mastodon instance, but it’s commercial and it has marketing. That’s all that’s “missing” from any other fediverse instance, and thank fucking god.
It’s the raison d’etre. Saying “don’t federate” is like saying “don’t put images and rich hyperlinking on the WWW, just make it like Gopher.” If you don’t want to federate, don’t. But saying that it was a bad move for ActivityPub is just nonsensical.
There are reasons that they have spent thousands or tens of thousands of working hours to make uptake as easy as possible. Those reasons are not in your interests. It is such a small price to pay. It is a necessary feature of ANY distributed service. The irony of complaining about it from your niche little Lemmy instance.
Look at it this way. You still had to pick an instance!! You just picked an instance that cannot talk to any other instances. If you were not so (forgive me but I guess it’s the term we’re using for lack of a better one) stupid, you would have realized that you had just had a meaningful choice taken from you, and made for someone else’s benefit instead of yours.
Throughout our entire global culture, convenience is killing us. I happen to believe free and healthy public forums outside of capitalist exploitation is of vital importance. I think this is a place our governments have abdicated responsibility to their citizens, and the Fediverse is the next best thing to public infrastructure. It’s so worth it when everything you need to know can be expressed in a one page FAQ that fits on your phone’s screen.
The police in all countries exist specifically to do violence against citizens of that country. That is literally their reason for existing.
People are less tech literate and considerably stupider than they were 20 year ago. It’s shocking.
If you think Remembrance Day isn’t extremely political, I dunno what world you grew up in. It’s time for less glorification of war, fewer children marching in parades dressed as soldiers, and more antifascist political statements.
It’s about time someone thought of AI working conditions.

Intentionally causing a person to fear harm is assault. Greentext is committing assault. It might not be possible to convict for it, but it’s still assault.
Car ownership serves our employers. It used to be that employers would build street cars and local rail.
Person on the left is a civil engineer. Person on the right is a voter.
The police don’t exist to protect citizens from crime. They exist to squash “illegitimate violence”, not because it benefits you or reduces crime, but because the police exist to enforce the state’s “monopoly on violence”. Their role is to do violence to you, not to protect you from it. The money that is levied from you is used to pay for the interests of the state, not your interests. They don’t work for us, no matter what you might hear from 1AAs.
Solutions don’t get people elected; problems do. Manufacture problems and blame your opponents for them.
